Off topic: Nav system
So being spoiled and used to having a nav in the Vette, I decided to get one for my Chevy Silverado SS. Thinking I am cutting a fat rat in the ass, I order a Dual XDVD8285 which is a DVD player, Nav, has bluetooth to connect to my cell, and is XM Ready. For less than $800. So I order it (UPS shows it was delivered today) , so driving in to work the next day it dawned on me that I had completely forgotten about the steering wheel controls and the OnStar stuff. I did a google and found solutions for both.
But does anyone here have experience setting up an aftermarket head unit in a GM equipped with Bose, XM, and OnStar? Or any of the aforementioned?

Ted, my company writes the data/ wiring fit info for cars/trucks/SUV's...I can probably give you a complete audio fit datasheet for the install on your vehicle. Send me PM and I'll see how I can get you what you need. I need the year of the truck...and the code for the Audio system, as there are a few. I just checked and we have every wire you'll need and all the data you can think of...

...my wife is in the market for a crewcab...we're wondering if its worth ticking the option box for the OEM nav and all that it includes or do we forego that box, save some money by making use of the Magellan 4250 I just bought for her birthday?...she just wants good nav for when she travels the mean streets of L.A. and beyond...we're not tech-geeks if that helps...uh...no offense to you geeks out there
...and how upgradable are the OEMs when it comes time to download new maps as urban sprawl continues?

I have a C6 Vette that came with navigation. I love it because it projects the turn information on the HUD. IMHO the factory installed navs are nice because no one wants to steal it, and there is no messing around with chimes, onstar, premium sound, steering wheel controls, etc. The one thing that it must have again IMHO is bluetooth to hookup to the phone. My vette does not have that and it sucks.
I already had to upgrade the map on the Vette and it was easy except for the $100 it lifted from my wallet.
