600 Mile Service cost?
I was quoted $65 an hour labor and one hour, with $40 for oil, filter and hypoid oil. Total $105.00 I figure they may add another 1/2 hour in labor so $137.50. Hows that compare to what others have gotten?

Shit. I coughed up $241 and some change. I'm not taking my bike in for dealer service, and doing my own work for quite a while. In fact, I have a factory service manual on order

I agree and have one on order myself, but I don't have the time at the moment ot make sure all of the bolts are torqued properly etc. This once it seems ok to let them do it! Being able to ride knowing it has been serviced is good enough!

I always let the dealer do the first service, as they check the bike over and should retorque all the nuts and bolts.
That being said, every other service I do myself, until it comes time to adjust the valves, that one I take to the dealer as well. Been doing that for years on all of my Kawis and have never had a warranty issue refused. I keep all the receipts for the oil and filters that are bought, and keep very good records on the mileage and date that I changed the oil.
I got tired of spending $120.00 for an oil change when I could buy the stuff to do it for $30.00.

I just got mine back from its first service and the charge was $157, but that was covered as I got the extended warranty that covers the cost of the first maintenance. I somehow don't get the feeling they did much more than change the oil. According to the maintenance book there was suppose to be alot more done.

I always try to observe the work being done on my bikes....I m not a trusting sort when it comes to my bikes. then I know what they did, and did not do...

So after three days I got it back and the price was $126.44. They only forgot to change the rear end oil. I'll do it tomorrow. Idjuts!

I always prefer to do the service work myself.... Nobody cares more than me.... I am careful with torque specs and fluid amounts..... I have found that the first service is a shake down I can do, as well as oil and shaft gear oil change .... I would feel much better doing this stuff, and it takes just a few minutes... a little music and I'm done.... It's so easy it's sick.... unless you can get it done for free...... Even then, I'd still do it myself....

I just paid about $US140 equivlent (before taxes) on the first service. After reading a note on this site about a dealer forgetting to drain the final drive I reminded this dealer not to forget. When I picked it up they said it wasn't in the manual. I showed them in the owner manual (last item) but they stopped looking when they saw the "check final drive level" which is about half way through the manual. Of course, this item is not required for the 600 mile because you change the final drive oil. They admitted it was their mistake and changed it out no-cost to me.
The two listings for final drive checks in the manuals means the dealers could miss it if they are in a rush.
My ride through the Rockies was fun and the bike is flawless.
