42mpg commuting 84 miles in mixed traffic. On highway I go about 80mph. During my commute I'm careful with throttle and keep revs low, but still hit speeds up to 90mph sometimes.

38 to 42 - average 40. I find the bike's gas mileage computer to be pretty accurate.

So far WAY better mileage than my old ZX-14. To early to give specific numbers though.

Everyone has a different riding style so the mileage will vary alot.

My best has been 38.6 and my average usually hangs around 35.8-36.4

Here's my mpg over the first 1000 miles or so.
--------------------------950.0 26.069 3.2701 85.5 37.0753

Date| Location| Mileage| Gallons| Price/gal| Total | M/G

8/30/2007 Dekalb Amoco 69.3 2.289 3.139 7.19 30.2752
8/31/2007 wooddale mobil 134.4 4.207 3.319 13.96 31.9468
9/2/2007 m.g. shell 99.7 3.012 3.449 10.39 33.1009
9/2/2007 wooddale mobil 137.2 3.322 3.279 10.89 41.3004
9/3/2007 cherry vly mobil 98.0 2.675 3.149 8.42 36.6355
9/3/2007 dubuque conoco 111.7 2.725 3.199 8.72 40.9908

9/5/2007 wooddale mobil 112.2 3.289 3.419 11.25 34.1137

Overall avg ~ 37 mpg. The last fill up was lots of city riding and stuck in traffic., 9/3 was a rather lengthy ride (~400 miles) of mainly highway and high speed backroads.

The numbers look perfectly good in the excel spreadsheet

basically the columns break down as follows

date | location | mileage reading | # of gals| price/gal | total cost of fillup | MPG

The last number in each row is really what's important. The numbers at the far top are the running totals.

Hope this clears things up.

+1

does the concourse have the same HP as the ZX14, or is it tuned down a little for better MPG?

On my first ride (600m) from Calgary to coast I was only getting 300km to the tankful (34mpg) and I was using a lot of gears and different speeds for the break-in. On the way home last week I was showing about 400km range per tank (43mpg) and I was using overdrive for most of the trip. That's a huge difference and a big improvement.

46-47 MPG highway riding @80-85MPH.

Steve -- not the same power at all. Detuned to keep the ZX14 king of the heap and probably different cams. Still lots of power, just not down low...

BFB, what speeds did this 500 mile trip entail. I find the way I ride (either over 85), or lower gears through the curves, I average ~35-37 over all (cumulative average over 3K miles is ~37 mpg).

Speeds averaging about 70 to 75 and some points over 85, going through canyons. The truest MPG is the 42 in my opinion because they are straighter and flatter stretches on the highway going to and from work. The canyons have alot of mountains and twisties. I was real easy on the throttle much more than normal as it was a morning run and deer are all over the place. I honesty can't imagine getting better than 42. The 47 must have been a fluke.

I find that the best speed for mileage on the C14 is around 80-85...except on my ZX14, where that gets me about 25...Hmmm...maybe I should try using something higher than 2nd gear eh?:P
