I pick up the non ABS on Monday
Hello all. I just wanted to join this forum. I have been lurking for weeks. Drooling and reading and trying to find as much info as possible about the connie.
I was supposed to pick mine up on Saturday but the computer system at the dealership was froze up, they sold no bikes that day unless you had cash in hand.
I could wait another month and have the cash but I want her right now. I pick her on Tommorrow though. I did not sleep much last night imagining zooming around on the new c-14.
My last "sport tourer" was a 04 vfr 800. I owned a Goldwing prior to that an 05 GL1800. I am hoping and also guessing the connie is going to fit right in the middle of those two bikes which is exactly what I was looking for in a bike.
What I did not like about the Wing........not many things it was just too big and heavy when commuting ( mostly the idea of backing it down out of my shed.)
The VFR I really likes except for a couple of things. The front end to put it bluntly sucked, it was soft ( I am a big guy) and almost no adjustability. The wife HATED two up on the VFR. I am not sure if it was cuz she was spoiled on the back of the wing or if the leaningn forward angle felt too much like a sportbike for her. She only rode on the back once and never wanted to ride on the back of the VFR again.........her words " I hate that f'n bike"
It brought me miles of smiles but it also was just short of what I wanted concerning power. I also looked at the FJR but again no inverted front or radial mounted brakes and the seat was hard as a brick and read up on all the fueling issues.
I am hoping the connie is almost as sporting as the VFR and almost as good for touring as the Wing was. Time will tell. I will know alot more tommorrow won't I?

Oh I also wanted to post my impressions of the bike in person since it was obviously the first time that I had seen one. I will post more as I ride it obviously.
Looks........it is actually smaller than my mind had imagined it to be. It is sharp looking in person.
I first opened the bags, seem to be kind of small but will se how it holds a load. I bet I can roll up stuff and get plenty in there though..
The next thing I did was take off one of the bags. VERY SIMPLE and QUICK! On and off without a hitch. Love em.
I asked about some people having problems with starting the bike, my good friend who is also the manager believes this to be a rider error above all. He said they probably forget to push the key in and wait a moment. He demonstrated this to me and I could clearly see his point.
I can't believe the tire pressure does not register until your moving, kind of useless to set it up but will let you know if one goes flat. As if you would not be able to tell by either the bike sliding sideways or that thwap thwap thwap sound.........lol.
The glovebox on the tank......I would have paid another 50 cents to have a couple more screws securing it down. It seems like it will fall off the tank if I don't brake the lid off first. I will let you know if/when I loose either the lid or the whole box as it seem inevidible. Its obviously a piece of crap.
I expected the adjustment on the headlights to be power like on the Goldwing, they are not. Just some little twisty knobs which will probably never get touched.
I have some concerns about mounting options. If I want to add a GPS system there is nowhere on the bars it could go and the tombstone style clutch and brake resevoirs do not look like the will hold a standard mount but it could just LOOK decieving. Time will tell.
The heat deflectors on the fairing.......I am curious how they look removed since it has these HUGE bolts to hold on those tiny pieces of plastic, seems a phillips head screw would have been fine.
The seat..........awww man the seat is so friggin comfortable to be stock. It almost feels like one of those temperpedic foam matresses. I don't suspect that an aftermarket will be a need.
The ride position is fantastic, feels alot like my Goldwing did. I am 6 foot and I had a bit of time reaching the ground, It just barely works for me so shorter riders may have some issues.
My wife liked the back seat other than the no backrest thing, hopefully an aftermarket one will be available soon without having to change the seat. Corbin will undoubtably come up with a seat with one but anyone who has ridden on a corbin will attest they are very firm...........read hard as a brick.
I will say this about the bike. I sold bikes for several years. I have owned alot of bikes ( rode countless others) and this is the first one in years that put that star gazed look in my eyes. I just could not peel my eyes off it. I spent probably an extra hour at the dealership oogling it!
I can't wait!!
As for gas mileage and low end power...........here is something to consider. My VFR when new had crappy gas mileage that got better and better the more miles I put on it, Seemed like I gained another 4-5 miles per gallon with each oil change. I started with mid 20s to low 30s and with no change in riding style I eventually was averaging about 40 mpg. Low end power also increased as did transmission smoothness.
Once again time will tell.
