Dr greg @ badweatherbikers says:

quote:
Just finished my first trip of any consequence; NM to Orlando FL (for a business meeting), then back to NM via GA, NC, TN, AR, OK, TX. Used about 1 qt oil, otherwise absolutely bulletproof. Uly stock except for Laminar Lip windscreen. What a great bike! I would take it anywhere.

We allowed 4.5 days from NM -> FL, and took a fairly direct route (1800 miles), although not primarily interstates.

For the return route we took 6.5 days, and since we went north up into GA, NC, etc. the return mileage was about 2300 miles. Averaged about 350 miles/day (max 555, min 120). We took "backroads" the entire way back (except for I-75 to get out of Florida...not my favorite part of the trip).

I fitted Avon AV45/46 tires for the trip, and they were great! They will last a LONG time and I will fit them again when it's time.

I intend to prepare a writeup of this trip (not that it's a big deal for you, but it was a big deal for me) and I may make it available to anyone interested.

Sorry....I just keep reading everyday about the probs with these damn bikes cause a few of my buds still hve theirs and can't give them away....here's a good one for today:

"Today my wife and I were out on a cruise together me on my Buell her on her Boulevard. We got about 30 miles from nowhere and clutch cable felt like it broke. I took off the inspection cover and saw the lever inside was moving like its supposed to but it wouldnt let me shift into or out of gear. I was stuck.. however luckily out of absolutely nowhere was a little farm store i limped her into it. towed it 120 miles to the dealer to get her fixed.
Here is what is geting fixed.

9300 miles and
1.)front motor mount worn almost out....motor clunks when going over small bumps...lots of vibration, started about 200 miles ago.
2.) oil seapeage out of the rear cylinder base.
3.) Clutch something broken.
4.)Super loud( over a loud exhaust i can hear it 5 feet away.) knocking coming from both sides of the bottom of the motor when its hot or cold.

I will be down from riding the buell for a while.
It wil be interesting to see how BMC and HD handle this one. Its ALL normal wear and tear i donot beat my bike but i dont baby her either. No burn outs..hell i got 6300 miles out of pilot powers and no wheelies either. I have changed oil/tranny every 3000. had my 1k and 5k done at the dealership... oh well it undrwarranty THANK GOD!!

I guess i better start sweet talking the wife so she will let me rider her motorcycle.

This sucks!"

I have owned a buell blast before and that thing is a pc of sh!t . I now own a XB12Scg you learn that before you go out on long hauls you just check it over all the nuts and bolts and stuff. But i got my XB12S cause they took my lemon of the Blast and gave me this one at a awesome deal i couldn't pass up. I am liking my XB12S i don't care what people think it's a fun bike to ride and i fit it.

You only fit it because the seat has been shaved and the shock shortened, and you wear platform soled boots when you ride it.......

I would buy an Vstrom 650 or 1000 before I would pay 2000.00 for a buell. I have a Vstrom 650 and it's a great bike and will run almost as good as the Buell with alot more cc's. There is basically no maintance on the Vstrom get on and ride I did 3100 miles in a week this tear and loved it they handle great and we take them off road once in awhile as Well. Buells are over priced junk. I was stupid enough to buy one once and the shop had it more then I did, I think they should have been paying the insurance on it. Now I have a couple friends with buella and they have problems all the time.

ya if its even related to harley it may be high BS and maintenance. but with the ROTAX powering it, I still suspect it'll be tough on the race track
