...all of these 'problems' are good to know...when if or when I do get mine, I will be prepared to look for these problems and address them appropriately...what's interesting is that the owner still 'loves' his Uly...makes you wonder why...could it be a great bike anyway?

Hey crip , keep dropping these bombs - it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside .... No seriously this is some good entertainment , thanks . Keep in mind that wormy has a KLR 650 , ( me too ) a bike that has the same defects for almost all of it's history and is still built exactly the same way today - none of them addressed . It makes you wonder some times what the factory is thinking but at the same time it isn't a flagship bike either . And at least the fixes are easy to do and common knowledge for anyone with internet hookup and a little time .

Nooo...I told everybody "I love my XB12S" Because I still owed about 9 grand on it and didn't wanna look like a jackass or feel I got taken! Once I got some sucker to take off my hands for $8,500.00, than the truth came out!

OK...Now I'm gonna narrow it down to just the Uly's! Just found a whole buncha Uly threads! :
"I've still got a scary wobbling going on, any where from 85mph to 110mph, the whole bike wags back and forth.
I've put on new tires, reset the suspension, checked the air pressure, and it still wobbles. If I sit my fat ass on the rear seat, its a bit better. But then my arms are streched all the way out.
I just dont feel I should have to go out and buy and bunch of crap to fix it."

I feel so silly posting these ULY probs...nah...no I don't...Here's another good one  :
"f anyone remembers I had my Uly crap out in the rain on my second day of ownership. Well, it has happened again.
I haven't really had it out in much wet weather since it happened the first time (maybe 10 minutes in a very light drizzle). This time I was about 150 miles from home this past Saturday with my son on the back. It wasn't raining but we were trailing a pretty decent storm cell and the roads were very wet. We rode in the road spray for about 10 miles and the motor just shut off at about 50 mph. Just like the first occurrence.
All the same symptoms - all the gauges and lights function, I can hear the fuel pump running and the starter cranks but it won't fire.
Everything under the seat was bone dry. The insulation/conduit for all of the wiring coming from the instrument cluster was pretty well saturated so I'm guessing it's probably shorting out at one of the low points in the harness once enough water gets in there.
Right now, I'm waiting on call backs from BRAG and Road America because Road America had it towed to the nearest HD dealer which ISN'T a Buell dealer. I've talked to the dealer (Chambersburg HD in Chambersburg, PA) and they've got no problem hanging on to it til I figure where it needs to go.
I'm guessing that'll be Battlefield Buell in Gettysburg. I know a couple of you (SeanP?) bought your bike there but I've never been there.
As it stands, I don't trust the bike in any kind of wet weather which pretty much makes it useless to me for anything other than pleasure cruises when there is no sign of rain. That's not why I bought the bike. Not sure what I'm going to do at this point but my frustration level is way up there. "

...I've read those posts on bdweatherbikers or advriders....I've also read the ones with minimal or no problems....seems like a QC issue, luck of the draw....

'Ok this is the last freaking time. Damm belt has eight months use and is ready to break again. Well under the 12,000 miles it is supposed to go. To make it even better the damm idler pulley surface is rough as all hell and will likely tear up a new belt.
Is this what I get for riding in snow, and rain this winter?
I will now have a total of three drive belts purchased in two years. This is freaking B.S. I wanna shove that thing up someones at Buells tush.
I am to freaking poor to be spending this kind of money on shiot that is breaking way before the service interval.
No freaking warrenty on the belt for less than a years use (8,000 miles).
The lack of a recall, the lack of my stealership knowing about the nessecary upgrade and selling me two 03 belts now and the fact I now have to spend another $400.00 dollars to get something that may last is going to result in me not ever buying another Buell.
I feel so freaking burned about this I want to scream. Thanks a lot BMC! All the money I saved on gas this year I get to spend on freaking belts and pulleys.
This stuff is defective!!!! I am tempted to ride the thing until it breaks in heavy traffic, hopefully getting hit and injured just enough to sue. As it is I am going to spend as many hours calling customer service as it takes to offset the profit they are making off selling me garbage.
Sorry but this is really the last thing I need right now and I have to blow off some steam or the bike is going over a cliff.
I want to love my bike I want to say Erik is the greatest designer ever. But dammit letting us 03 bolt owners get burned on belts is B.S. So many have broken prematurly that I am tempted to start a class action lawsuit. Wonder if I could find enough people who had early failures to make it worth it..............
I am so freaking mad right now I am going to blow a seam any minute.
Starting to think it is all BUELLSHIT.'

I dropped the 12Ss off at the dealer on Wed evening and picked it up Thu after work. The front sprocket nut was the culprit. The boys torqued it to the new spec of 260ftlbs...all is good, or so I thought.
I rode to work yesterday and noticed I was missing shifts...both up and down. Almost like the shifter was not 'engaging'. This was never an issue before. The tranny on the bike was always solid, nice clean shifts in both directions. I locked the rear up twice on the ride home from missing up-shifts. You know, 2nd 3500rpm, off throttle, clutch in, shift, clutch out, roll on throttle...only to find I'm still in second, 3800 rpms and the rear is fish tailing like a bastard on a highway on ramp that was damp from rain. Not a very pleasurable experience. On the off ramp, I was in 5th, down shifting to 4th, and the only way I could get the bike to shift was to keep slowing using the brakes until the revs dropped below 2 grand with the clutch out. Then as I clutched in, I could feel the shifter engaging, and I was able to get the bike in the proper gear.
The clutch adjustment feels fine, all kinds of tension and it releases full travel. The shifter itself, springs back to the neutral position after moving it.
I'm not entirely sure what went on inside the primary when the boys had it apart on Thursday, but I'm going back this morning.
I was well aware of the finickiness of these bikes when I bought it, but my god, it's one thing after another. The signals are not working all the time now, meaning I turn them on and the lights stay on, they do not flash. I would suspect that's an easy fix...the flasher is, in all likelihood, funky.
To remind, it is an '06 12Ss with 5000 miles, garaged all the time and never abused. "

'Twas an '06 ULY! Here's another Uly prob today:
"Hi All,
I've seen several posts about cooling fans going kaput, but they all sounded like a sudden event. Mine is starting slow (when I turn it off), makes odd noises, then runs up to the obnoxious level we know and love. Anyone else have this? I need to know because my dealer is so popular in Summer, it could take a while for an appt."
I rode withmy friend who has an '04 Firebolt...he was out of commision all last summer due to clutch failure...after going in the shop for the 4th time(luckily the warranty covered everything) he finally got his bike up and running in October!

...aha!...found it....since I don't plan on riding gravel roads as much as that rider (or any rider), I think I should be ok on the Ulytiti bike...but its nice to know that I can take this bike on a gravel or frost heave infected road and ride it with more comfort than on a bike designed 'strictly for the street'...perhaps the true 'off-road' adventure rider would be better on a KTM or a BMW?...the Uly seems perfect for my 'on-road' needs.....

I'm sorry...I wanted to stop but there are sooooooooo many freakin' problems with these damn bikes...This one caught my eye:
"So I paid 300$ (NOT under warranty on a Sunday?)to get my voltage regulator replaced because it kept blowing my headlights.
Go out today and get the damn clicking of death sound on startup.
Plus my damn headlights wont come on,I wiggle the wires n one comes on.
ONLY ONE! and the other WILL NOT come one, checked the bulb n its not blown.
Pull the rubber cups off the back of the lights to have a look n the positive side of the wires are brown n almost melted looking.
WTFF is going on with this crap.
I'm getting real tired of wondering if my american motorcycle is gonna leave me stuck in a parking lot.
My cell is in my truck at my wifes work so I can't call the stealership that did the "work".
Any ideas wtf is going on with my electrical system? "
