My buddy rides a 2005 Black Raven R1. Bike is beautiful. Last year I finished my 2005 GSX-R1000 with a big bore piston kit and some other goodies and now we want to do some performance upgrades on his bike.

Looking at a +2mm piston kit to 1051cc, thin gasket and some adj cam sprockets. That plus a BMC Race filter, full system, PCIII and some dyno time should move the bike up to about 175 rwhp (hopefully).

From what I understand about R1s (all internet research) you can't really stroke the motor and some folks even speak poorly about boring. The stocks cams are about as good as your going to get (except for adding adjustable sprockets) and porting the head doesn't do much in the way of performance either.

Has anyone done the 1051cc kit? What was your experience with the increased displacement? Did the motor give you any unexpected mechanical problems after the work? What are some other options besides boring and stroking for this motor? Thanks.

Hmm, guess you Yammi riders just run what you brung. I found out that from 2004 forward the R1 came with adjustables so that's one less expense. In addition, I found a guy who had a crank stroked but dropped the project because of his new business (yeah, sounded strange to me too).

My friend and I are considering the 1051cc kit with a 2mm stroke on the crank. Pistons will need to be made special but I really think we can find the 25+ horses we're looking for out of the bike. Feedback would be awesome but I know you Yammi guys are all about the look, not the action.
