Connie14- a few pics of bike at the NJ dealership
Guy from the Concours forum lives by the dealership and brought his bike over, showed me the features of my bike, and took a few pics which i really appreciated. I was going to take a phone cam pic as "best case sceanario"
Dork look after being at the airport at 5:45 AM

Dave from the connie forum

Suited up for a cold NJ ride through Camden, Baltimore, DC, and down to mom's in Carolinas to take her to b'day dinner and get a 600 mjile oil change

Loading "mom's" into GPS

See ya' later NJ, heading southbound

1160 miles on her...that quick. Good to be back in FL!

Steve - I'm considering swapping my 09 for the 10...just need to know - how's the heat management on that thing? Do you feel heat on your legs while riding at any speed?

My kind of guy. Leaves warm Florida for cold Jersey in January to buy a bike. Rides it home JUST missing the really bad weather. A road racer who tours; now you have to try straight line racing and you have done it all. Well done Steve, that bike is you. Enjoy. LSL

How was the mileage on your trip? Also, what plans do you have for it? Are you just going to leave it stock and ride the piss out of it? Or are you going to put an exhaust on it and ride the piss out of it? It obviously needs a new set of pilot road 2's on it.

Great pics Steve.............I agree with LSL.
Nice of Dave from the Connie board to help out too.
You're gonna LOVE that thing!
FastestBusaAround.....
I'm an escort rider for Kawasaki demo's and have logged quite a few miles on the C-14's. KMC did a really good job on the issue although I'm betting Steve would have liked the '09 while in New Jersey :-)
The side by side photo above shows how much larger the side grills are, they closed in the fairings down by your shins which helps out a ton. As you know the 14's make some hp and the heat that follows is natural but all in all I have been impressed with the 2010 improvement in traffic and while riding at low speed, which is hard to do on a Connie!!
I don't know if you changed out your windshield but the new one is better for me over the earlier ones, the airflow is smoother. The standard heated grips are a plus and I'm sure Steve will be trying out the traction control since he got the ABS model.
Quite a few improvements but your '09 is a great bike, especially with the mods you've done.
Good luck with your decision, it'd be a tough one.

I rode in 28 degree weather and wanted heat and its been answered already better than I can, but i can tell you this I felt ZERO heat when I got into FL. Less than my yamaha (with titanium exhaust) at red lights. I'm impressed. And FBA I'm tall and was concerned about the windshield, its perfect I won't be swapping it. The MAIN mod this thing needs is me to put a trillion miles on it, which will be happening. Because of that I doubt i even do the PC-V and fullsystem on this bike. may even leave the flies in. The more distance per tank the better, its going 160-170 miles before the gas warning comes on, and still has over a gallon of gas (meaning another 40-50 miles are inh order.

Yeah my friends thought i was skitzo and now they're convinced after this winter trip. I really logged so many miles on my litre leaner and 600 combined with the fact I'm old that I had to buy a sport tourer. The ST1300 and FJR1300 just didn't compare.

I ran it with ECU in "economy" mode on the trip. didn't take exacts but computer displayed between 43 and 47 MPG, and I held it a "few" mph over the posted speed limit. Althought the tires are OK I DESPERATELY want PR2 michelins on it. The way this thing takes off like a rape ape, it shouldn't be long till the back's done and I'll replace the front at same time just cuz..
I was very hesiatnt to buy a Kawi over the BMW1300GT, I'm thrilled I did after this trip.

Yes sir, and they were a PLEASURE to deal with. Not to mention thousands cheaper than anywhere else in the USA I priced. I wanted to purchase a connie in Phoenix or Vegas and ride it back to FL. (I had my truck on standby as backup if weather didn't allow me to ride it back but was fortunate). I'll write a thread about my dealer experience, they deserve it. And for me to do anything other than cuss a stealership is odd

Steve, Good Luck with the new bike, its great to hear that Kaw was listening when they did the upgrades to the new Concours. Seems like a discriminating palate has been impressed with the new bike, enjoy your many miles with it. I bought my 08 ZX14 from Cycle World in Cherry Hill and they were great to deal with, one of the sales reps has a Concours and he was the guy who gave me the pre trip run through on my 14, he told me that he rode his 14 Concours to Laguna Seca and he loved the bike too!

The heat issue IMHO is mostly the heat foam not being sealed well. Sealing it up greatly reduced the issue. But on a cold day it is welcome. I am considering some vents that can be opened in the winter and closed in the summer. Below 40 the engine heat would be much nicer.

Congrats on the new purchase!! I really like the Concourse since it's redesign!! Props to Kaw on that idea......I'd looked them over for months along with the FJR and ST, but i guess my nuts were swollen with greed the day I purchased my 14 instead -- don't know if it's an older gents attempt at holding onto his youth or what......but all in all I'm happy with my ZX for now. Maybe I'll make the jump to sport touring when my body starts rebelling the effect of 5 and 6 hour rides on this rocket. But knowing me, when that day comes I'll dump a bunch of money into my 14 to make it more comfortable so I can still fly low!! I know the C14 is quick, but it ain't ZX14 quick.........Hey, there's an original idea -- someone should build one for the strip!!! With those saddle cases, think how much nitrous you could cram in there and still have room for parachutes!

Congratulations.
How tall are you?
Doesn't the BMWGT have rubber handlebars, an absolute dealbreaker sport-wise?
Finally, how did you make the decision about whether to get ABS (and linked brakes)?

I did 2100 miles in 8 days on basically stock 14, and I'm 57, only pain was the butt, but anything that I would of ridden will kill the back end.
Put the LSL handle bar kit on and you got yourself a ripping sport tourer. Many people provide baggage systems for the bike also.
