WARNING: MPHCYCLE

I had a horrible experience with MPHCYCLE and wanted to share.

I was originally dealing with Don, and ordered 3 Michelin 2CTs. I received regular Pilot Powers and called frustrated. Don said it was a mistake and he'd have UPS drop me a set of 2CTs and pick up the regular Pilot Powers same time, no problem. I mentioned that would be nice, but I'm on vacation as of that day pulling out, and will call up there after I get back.

I made that call today and talked to a lady. She called me and relayed a message from the owner of MPH and said Don was no longer there and she will send me a shipping label, and then for me to take these tires to UPS and just send them back!? Once they get them back, she said they'd ship another set of tires. That didn't feel right.

I explained Don, acting as an agent for them, promised me it'd be a one-for-one swap to the right tires. I also explained that after someone already sent me wrong stuff, I would very much appreciate the one for one swap as was agreed to. She told me that was not a possibility. I explained I frequent Bikeland and know many folks in the Carolinas and I would have to share this experience, and she said she understands but her offer is final. So I politely told her to have a great day.

But I want to stress I had a MISERABLE experience with MPHCYCLE. Both with the lady I spoke with, and the owner that wanted to cut me that poor customer service (two trips to UPS) and uber-shady deal after I already received the wrong stuff once.

Note to MPHCYCLE: as you read this please feel free to comment or call me out on anything that is not factual. And as I promised, I'll be posting up on the local motorcycle forums around your location and speaking with folks up there during my next trip up to the twisties in the area.

side note:

So a few minutes ago out of the blue Don calls to explain he's not there and follow up on my tires. I told him the story per above and he said thats fine no need to hassle with those folks, he'll swap me tires when he gets set up at his new shop one for one. Said he'll call me back next week. I'll post up about whether that happens, and when Don makes it good I'll mention the shop name to everyone in a thread for sure.

Steve....how many shops does Don have?

http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=27&TID=43166&set_time=

He has been representing that as HIS shop. Not a shop he works for....HIS shop.

It is not "out of the blue" that he called you, most likely. He probably read your post in the other thread.

Hi Shane,

actually he sent me an IM long before he called-

the topic isn't Don, I probably shouldn't have mentioned him in the thread but thats who i placed my original order through. I still have 3 pilot powers I'm not shipping back to MPHCYCLES and it wasn't Don that stuck me, its the lady on the phone I spoke with.

You don't think that Don has represented this as his personal shop....as though he was the owner? Did you not read the warnings from others who have dealt with him?

At any rate....hope you get things straightened out.

Shane I don't know who owned/owns MPHCYCLES or if Don claimed to have managed and opened the shop for another investor or silent partner or if Don even exists I really don't care. I have no clue what happened up there.

If Don sends me one for one swap on 2 CTs tires from a different business or his basement thats great and I'll post up. If he doesn't, I have 3 pilot powers in my garage.

But I am DONE with MPHCYCLES and would like to share my experience I had with them, because as you've seen posted others were about to pull the plug on orders from there.

I didn't realize that this was the same guy that had KZScott, Shane and many others in an uproar. You would think that dealing with someone who is as well known and liked as Steve, he would have made sure that everything went perfect. As a Texas comedian said, "You can't fix stupid".

Thanks guys, worse case scenario I got the wrong tires, Pilot Powers instead of 2CTs. I can runh Pilot Powers, and if Don makes good on the 2CTs thats even better.

However, the lady at "MPHCYCLES" I spoke with today was incredible and I'm warning you guys about that whole thing is all.

I have no prob in getting the wrong tires. Thats not the topic, and I make mistakes too. Its the treatment I got from MPHCYCLES when trying to get the tires I ordered.

shipped and everything, the Pilot Powers sent to me were about 30% cheaper than the ones in that link. only prob is per above, I ordered 2CTs

matter of fact, 2 rears and a front were cheaper than a rear and a front on that link.

then again, you guys aren't posting up my prob either

stevewfl I read your op twice and didn't understand what the woman's remedy for swapping tires was. Did she want more money for the CT's? Do the CT's usually cost more? Is she not willing to pay both shipping bills?

My prob with her is she wanted these tires back before we do anything. I had been promised a one-for-one swap, (UPS drop news ones and I put the slip on and send these back). She wanted her tires back and me hope for the best on ever seeing more tires, which wasn't what was promised.

I nicely explained what was promised, the fact I didn't want to hassle with "two" more UPS transactions for no reason, and the fact after already getting thw wrong stuff it was just a bad idea. She got real spiteful with me and that was that.

***prob with her was her attitude like I did something wrong, and the fact she wasn't holding up the deal that was made with me***

I am not saying this is what has occurred (allegedly, disclaimer, nice guy in a bad situation, etc.), however, hypothetically speaking…

Her solution and attitude is consistent when an employee who has access to inventory and/or shipping has sold something out the backdoor and simply pocketed the money. She doesn't want to make this right (before she receives the tires) because if you send her the tires back she is likely to tell you, you have to pay for the tires (again) because she has no record of the sale but is missing the inventory.

I understand the principal behind both the buyer and sellers positions. However, I assume that a credit was used to pay for the tires. If the buyer has evidence (a ups shipping receipt) that the tires were returned, and if the seller neglected to send the other tires or refund the credit, It would be a slam dunk to do a credit card dispute. I never worry about that kind of stuff. I've won every credit card dispute that I've been involved in. If the seller can't prove that you have their merchandise, the credit card company reaches into the sellers bank account and removes your money. I understand the frustration but if you don't want those tires then send them back and get a refund.

If the woman sent more tires and the buyer was unscrupulous and didn't send the other tires back, there would be nothing that the seller could do to recoup the loss. It's a business decision that may keep her from losing money on this deal but will obviously cost her more business in the future.

Life is short, send the tires back and try and allow her to complete the transaction. You've got nothing to lose.
