Attn Phoenix AZ Members... Test Rides - '09 Vmax, Possibly '09 R1 Nov 7-9?

Got this info from a friend.... Any AZ Bikeland members wanna check out the new bikes?

quote:
Yamaha's hosting a "tent" event in Phoenix next weekend at the Firebird Raceway. This is a first of its kind. There will be ATV/SxS demos, motorcycle demos, rock wall, performances by Nate Adams, Tommy Clowers, and Jeff Tilton (Saturday only). Grant Langston will be on-hand for autographs (Saturday only), live radio remotes on Friday and Saturday and the dealers will be SELLING.

We have created a URL that is live right now. Items are being added, but the location and schedules are up there right now.

Shows for the FMX guys are 2pm and 4pm on Sat.

Any help promoting this through web channels or local channels would be greatly appreciated.

I went to the "Yamaha sales event" in which the were giving street demos of their cruiser line with the exception of the V-max and FZ1.
No '09 R1 or R6 were present..
I will have a write up on the V-Max and the Warrior and some pix to post shortly

Ok…so I been moving Read that as busy.

A week ago I went to a Yamaha sales event (way to many sales guys) and they were have a demo ride as well.
Yamaha brought out it’s new ’09 V-Max and more of it’s cruiser line.

I first rode the Warrior.

It is a low slung boulevard cruiser that was actually fun to ride. It was well balanced with lots of low end V-twin torque and a decent handling package.
At slower speeds it exhibits no “fall in” while turning and although the ride did not have a real turns on it, it did end at the Firebird east track and we turn around using about half the track and some cross roads. So… I hung back a little and took a couple of turn fast enough to scrape a peg or two (not that hard
It did well enough to be fun in the hills, and a good rider could give a sport rider of limited skill a good ego kill if need be. The brakes seem firm and responsive and the controls all fell into hand and were light to operate. One the down side The seat has a ridge at the back, bothersome after only a couple miles….AND the Bazooka B-52 Inter-Continental missile sized exhaust has to go. I would give it an 8.0 in the cruiser scale of bikes.
Now the V- Max.

The retro familiar style of the old V-Max was very recognizable at first sight. The exhaust has changed (not for the better) it looks like a metallic cauliflower and the side scoops are even bigger that the original, watch sucking up puppies and small children from the side of the road, although I’m not sure they a functional expect for rock strikes to the knees Sitting on Da’max as I call it, is comfy enough the seat is wide and contoured. The instruments are very readable including the Big Ben sized tach, and airport landing light of a shift light mounted to the top right of the tach. The speedo is digital and to the bottom right of tach. is easy to see. The rest of the instruments are digital and mounted on the tank and somewhat hard to read without being adept at the text messaging head bob while driving

Once under way, the grunt this 600 lb beast has is awesome, a flick of the wrist the back end raises slightly and your arms are an inch longer. Having just gotten off my piped, geared and flies out Zx-14, Da’Max is equal to the 14 in basement up to about 7,000 rpm. At which point it levels out and it feels like the 14 would start pulling it. Da’max in some respects “feels” like it pulls harder, not that it does. I think it is the upright seating that makes it feel that way. I got to see the shift light come on once in second at which point I was going to rear end the gut in front of me so I backed off. But down low it’s a big block Brakes are solid. Slow speed handling is heavy and falls in, above 25mph it is more neutral but still a little slow, the weight is apparent. One more big negative was the off throttle back torque. In a slow corner it would almost throw the bike on its side without a serious correction on the bars . It needs a slipper clutch BAD!
I was a little disappointed with Mr. Max. But to be honest I did not like the original all that much either. I had a buddy that had an ’85 V-Max and always offered to trade with me. I had a ’83 GS 1100 ESD with a Wiseco 1260 kit in it. Go figure

Pics to follow.

Interesting regarding your experience with the Warrior's handling....does it have a decent passenger seat?

the exhausts on all bikes with any engine at all are getting more HUGE every year. thanks tree huggers, although non tree huggers replace that crap 1st order of bizness
