Dodge dealer writes letter... thoughts?

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2009/05/letter_from_a_dodge_dealer.html

quote:
Letter from a Dodge dealer
letter to the editor

My name is George C. Joseph. I am the sole owner of Sunshine Dodge-Isuzu, a family owned and operated business in Melbourne, Florida. My family bought and paid for this automobile franchise 35 years ago in 1974. I am the second generation to manage this business.

We currently employ 50+ people and before the economic slowdown we employed over 70 local people. We are active in the community and the local chamber of commerce. We deal with several dozen local vendors on a day to day basis and many more during a month. All depend on our business for part of their livelihood. We are financially strong with great respect in the market place and community. We have strong local presence and stability.

I work every day the store is open, nine to ten hours a day. I know most of our customers and all our employees. Sunshine Dodge is my life.

On Thursday, May 14, 2009 I was notified that my Dodge franchise, that we purchased, will be taken away from my family on June 9, 2009 without compensation and given to another dealer at no cost to them. My new vehicle inventory consists of 125 vehicles with a financed balance of 3 million dollars. This inventory becomes impossible to sell with no factory incentives beyond June 9, 2009. Without the Dodge franchise we can no longer sell a new Dodge as "new," nor will we be able to do any warranty service work. Additionally, my Dodge parts inventory, (approximately $300,000.) is virtually worthless without the ability to perform warranty service. There is no offer from Chrysler to buy back the vehicles or parts inventory.

Our facility was recently totally renovated at Chrysler's insistence, incurring a multi-million dollar debt in the form of a mortgage at Sun Trust Bank.

HOW IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CAN THIS HAPPEN?

THIS IS A PRIVATE BUSINESS NOT A GOVERNMENT ENTITY

This is beyond imagination! My business is being stolen from me through NO FAULT OF OUR OWN. We did NOTHING wrong.

This atrocity will most likely force my family into bankruptcy. This will also cause our 50+ employees to be unemployed. How will they provide for their families? This is a total economic disaster.

HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN IN A FREE MARKET ECONOMY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?

I beseech your help, and look forward to your reply. Thank you.

Sincerely,

George C. Joseph
President & Owner

You should have sold Honda cars....dumb fuck....Dont whine when you make an investment and it doesn't pay off....how long has it payed off so far?...so far so good...but the game changed.... and now you're bitching....Maybe if you had a real job and didn't inherit a dealership...maybe then your service and treatment of custoimers would have been outstanding enough that you would survive....stop bitching....get a job.

Sick Chrysler deals coming!

Get ready for a truly amazing fire sale. Many doomed Chrysler dealerships are stuck with some decent cars and trucks on their lots that they need to unload by June 9.

My brother in law brought one of them SRT8's home and I got to go play a bit. The interior looks like they hadn't learned anything since 1960. The exhaust note was LAME and the car just felt like a heavy bloted boat. The outside looked OK, but the ratio of interior room and size of the car sucked. I'm glad I have my 540hp '09 Mustang and await further testing of a new blower that just came out, early results are 750 hp at the tires on 93 octane pump gas . . .

Just typical UAW built/American design BS.

Ever wonder why they can't sell this shyte But if they're giving them away, I'll torture one for a year and sell it!

I tried to convince myself I'd like a new Dodge "RAM tough" truck, but I won't buy one at any price. Now if FORD has a truck give-away sign me up!

What good is it to downsize the number of dealers? If they are selling cars, why screw with them? I heard that reducing the number of dealers will make it harder for people to go from dealer to dealer to drive the price down. So what? That doesn't hurt the mfg, the dealer still pays the same for the car, he just cuts into his profit.

+1

also reducing the dealers in the market helps the foreign competition with the American companies having less of a presence.

TedG< what do you expect this is socialism, Obama says shut 'em down! And, Obama fired the GM CEO (not that I disagree) but this is the first time we've seen government control business. Stay tuned for more socialism!

Steve I hate to tell you this but when the government loans anyone any money there are strings. If you remember correctly, Chrysler came with their hand out asking for money. The government did not force them. Stop with the socialism crap, it is boring. All any business has to do is not ask for a loan and the government can't say shit. You want a loan? Better expect strings. Look at Ford, didn't ask, no strings. They do it their way.
There is only one thing worse than this, letting the company collapse.
Now that fact that the government allowed the downturn to happen... well we won't wont go into that.

TedG: correct, the government should've let the automakers collapse in the beginning, and not got involved. Now they collapse after spending billions of our dollars.

We know they can't sel American shit, why in the hell did government get involved in business? Socialism! The banks are next!

Ford is ending its relationship with navistar so you can kiss that 6.4L good bye too

Plus the 6.4L could not meet 2010 emissions so it was a short life

Actually I think the 6.4 with urea after-treatment would pass muster but Ford didn't wwant to continue the relationship any longer than they had to, after the 6.0 fiasco. The new Ford 6.7 liter Scorpion designed in house may pass muster, too early to tell. I still contend the 6.4 is a very strong engine, mine's pulled nearly 36,000 lb. down the road and aside from poor mileage doing so, it performed like a beast. It's my daily driver and my tow vehicle.

I don't agree about forcing them to collapse. If they need the money, they can get a loan, but there are strings. I also think the American cars are right up in there with everyone else.

Read the letter again! Its not about american cars and all the shit going with the dealers. Its about a business man that just lost all that he had. I know that none of you could possibly ever be in that position but I could only wish. SOME of you are just IGNORANT. CHRYSLER is shutting him down not bad business practices.

The ONLY reason they should be shutting down dealerships is if they owe excessive amounts to Chrysler, otherwise if the dealership can continue to service their debt, they should be allowed to continue. I suspect SOME dealerships owe so much on their inventory that they need to be cut loose but it makes no sense to arbitrarily shut them down.
