Thieves nabbed five historic Arai helmets from their UK distributor on the evening of Tuesday 24th February, 2009 in Newcastle, England. The irreplaceable helmets stolen included a signed Barry Sheene replica.

Anyone with information regarding the theft is asked to please contact their local police, or you can fill out one of our contact forms under the "Contact Us" link in the upper right hand corner of your screen and we'll get your information off to Arai.

Missing helmets and photos listed below...

Arai NR 3 Barry Sheene replica (signed)
NR3 Freddie Spencer replica (signed)
NR3 Randy Mamola replica
Quantum Joey Dunlop replica
GP-5K Lewis Hamilton replica (no pic available)

I don't much care for Arai helmets anyway - lots of cash for not much value.

They're noisy at speeds compared to my Scorpion at 1/3rd of the price, only a tad lighter and don't offer a whole lot more ventilation over the Scorpion, if anything perceptible at all, from my test rides with them. Optics are no better than the Scorpion either. Removing the shield on the Scorpion takes a few seconds and the Arai is a real fucking PITA. That's how I determined the value aspect guys.

I have a scorpion and arai and the arai shield snaps off with one pull, snaps on simply. its sounds like the plastic is breaking but I've done it a thousand times and no breakage.

as far as noise, mine are a tie with both being noisy as hell I can't tell a difference.

and the scorpion 1000 is so much heavier I only use it on track days, 15 laps. never on a long sport touring ride

shoei is no better than either of these!

I'm going to try an AGV finest or high end Shark soon

I thought this was safety equipment? Would you rather shovel your head into the asphalt at 60mph in a Scorpion or an Arai? Please explain that difference in "value"

The build quality of Scorpion and Arai? Actually I feel just as safe crashing in either one. The Arai is slightly lighter because of better technology is the only reason I use it on the street and the Scorpion on the track

A helmut only has to save your head once but I am not sure how you can possibly put a "value" on that ability ?

as far as "crashing", my scorpion is just as safe as my arai. as far as hi-tech and weight and all that goes, sure the arai is far more advanced.

I don't think Arai charges such a premium because their helmets are proven safer...

It's more about perception, imo. If someone has some data to prove otherwise, I'd love to see it and I may switch. Otherwise, we have Shoei's and maybe next time I will try an HJC.

Classic helmets...I loved my Bell M2 Lawson, then I had a Shoei Lawson which I enjoyed very much as well...

I hope they find the Arai's.

I have both the Arai and HJC helmets. The Arai is sooooooooo much more comfortable. Just be sure to try on each model and get the one that fits your head. I still like my HJC, it has sort of raw feeling to it. To me, the worst thing about the HJC is its shape resembles an astronaut's helmet... I've never crashed in either, so I can't put a 'value' on that. I have crashed in 3 Shoei helmets and I'm still here typing in these forums with little, (depends on who you ask), or no brain damage...

yes. crash = tie unless you can prove otherwise?

the arai wins in graphics, weight, comfort, technology.

if it is "the most expensive helmet wins for safest", then suomy would be the only helmet to wear on the track and the others would take a backseat.

But we know the $$$$$$$$ is just for the bling on helmets.

I have the Shark RS1...... I love it. Its about the same weight as the Suomy. SO close I cant tell the difference without a scale...... And I absolutly love the design. It seems to flow real well at high speeds. and its quiter than my Suomy..... Next time I see you on a ride or in YBor I'll show it to you.

I thought of trying a Shark...but they are not Snell 2005, as far as I know. My racing organization requires it.
