It actually works... Meguiar's Quik Detailer

I've always been a big fan of late night TV infomercials.... Some of my favorites are for car wax. I remember watching a commercial about fifteen years ago that had a guy try to burn a hole in a freshly waxed car with a laser beam. My other favorite wax infomercial was for some amazing stuff that wouldn't let water stick to your car. I have to admit that I even mail ordered both (guess I'm a sucker!). The water never sheeted off, and since I don't own a military grade laser, I never did get a chance to try and burn a hole through my paint job. The heavily oxidized finish on our mid 80's Toyota minivan was never restored to its original luster, even with hours of polishing and several different miracle cures, none of which lived up to their claims.

You can guess that I raised an eyebrow in skepticism when I viewed the video on YouTube of a fellow showing off some new Meguiar's product that claimed to repel water and do all sorts of other cool things. Curious to try it out, I made a few calls to Meguiar's and netted box of goodies... Digging through the box, I located the miracle product - "Meguiar's Quik Detailer"... purportedly able to create a polymer barrier that repels water (amongst other things). Feeling like a star in my own infomercial, I sprayed some miracle product all over our 1098. The Ducati buffed out to an immediate and, to be deadly honest, ridiculous shine.

I was impressed, but it's a Ducati and it's easy to be impressed by a shiny Ducati, so I marched over to our Black 2007 ZX-6R and doused the gas tank with the stuff. Same result - the tank turned to an immediate mirror like finish.

I was starting to feel like that guy in the "Ronco" food processor infomercial... Is this stuff really "set it and forget it"? The real test was to come.

I ran inside the house and filled a coffee mug with water. Returning to the driveway I walked out to my black - and unwashed in several months - car. Starting with the obviously filthy hood, I sprayed the miracle product, "Meguiar's Quik Detailer", on half of the hood and following the instructions buffed it to a miraculous, mirror-like finish.

So far so good.

I stood back; coffee cup poised, and poured water all over the hood. Like Moses parting the Red Seas in an epic Hollywood flick, the water scurried away from the Meguiar's treated part of the hood.

My friend Scott, who had come by in time to watch my Meguiar's hood demo, muttered in amazement. Scott (who's a little on the "thrifty" side at times) did the unthinkable... he grabbed the bottle and wanted to know the name of the miracle stuff so he could buy some! I excitedly pulled out the hose and did the entire car, using the Meguiar's motorcycle cleaner (heck... if it can clean the bike, it can clean my car).

I felt good. It's been decades since I was first fascinated by the claims of late night car wax commercials, claims usually made by unknown fly-by night companies. The products never did as well in real life as they did on TV, but here I was decades later with Meguiar's water repelling car wax that actually worked smeared all over my car and my garage full of motorcycles.

I was happy.

The end.

Meguiar's Quik Detailer and their new line of motorcycle specific care products can be found at reputable retailers - not late night infomercials.

Meguiar's Quik Detailer retails for $9.99 and you can find out more about it here...

I am a sucker for new waxes and polishes. So next time I am at the auto parts store I will get some. I have the Meguire's detailer (not ultimate)and it is garbage.

I've been using it on my Vette for a while. All the Meguiars stuff is excellent. If you've got any rough stuff in the paint, try the Clay Bar with the regulay Spray Detailer before using the Ultimate. Oh, and they make a bitchin wheel brush.

I use Zaino on the Vette. I have found the Maguire's Gold class (on my black truck) to not last very long and it seems very greasy and attracts a huge amount of dust. Living in Nevada the air is just full of dust. Where the Zaino attracts about 1/3 as much. And Zainos detailer when used with it's products (meaning that if the vehicle is polished with Zaino) is second to none. I also noticed that the Maguire's shine although instantaneous is because it is so oily and that oil goes away very quickly in this dry climate and the shine fades with it. but at least it doesn't attract as much dust.
I have had very good results with NanoWax, decent shine, very little dust, but it too doesn't last very long. But is is an excellent detailer, and used as one the protection rejuvenates each time. And NOTHING works better on textured plastic than NanoWax, less greasy than Armor all and like new shine.
I was going to buy the Maguires Ultimate at Kragen when I went in to buy a battery, and forgot. But I do have a $10.00 certificate and that is a good thing to use it on. The CI4 has plenty of paint to try it on.

This QUICK DETAILER product is the best thing I've found in the cleaning products arena!

A guy mentioned when we were discussing cleaning "I wax my bike once in a while, other than that I just spry quick detailer on and wipe it off unless I see mud or tar"

The tip this guy gave me was priceless. People on my recent Deal's Gap run were amazed my bike stayed immaculate the week through parked outside a hotel. I just took a few seconds and sprayed this stuff on and wiped it off at the end of each day.

Editor: this was a great post, with zero BS or exaggeration about a product.

If you have been using it for years I am thinking the stuff I have is the same. But what I have is in a maroon bottle. If it is the same, all I can say is you guys aren't very fussy about the shine because the stuff in the maroon bottle is crap.

I dunno what color it is, I'm in TX tonight. but if its the quick detail, its all I use.

the bike has to be initially waxed. then the bike has to by sprayed with the crap, then dried off, then buffed a little with a dry rag. at least thats what I do and it works for me. you've seen the pics of my 14. only time it was even fairly dirty was daytona week at night after the all day rides, and it was still acceptable

It is the MAROON bottle and it's not really a wax, just a quick detailer/light cleaner. Ted ol' boy, it works better than Pledge (Harley thing). The bike has to be relatively clean to start with. It's good for removing dust and light dirt to get a decent shine. Hell, I got a shine out of it on my Black ZX all the time. Maybe you have a bad or stale-dated bottle. I've been using it for years with great success! It will never give you a Zaino or Carnuba wax shine, but for a 5-minute thing, very nice product, but wtf do I know anyway...:P

2 years ago I got a red flag deal @ Costco -- (2) 12 OZ bottles of Eagle One Wax as U Dry...like the Magiures, but at 2 bucks for the pair of bottles. I bought like 30 bottles! Great stuff and smell good too!

Believe me I know the difference between a detailer and a wax. I used Pledge in the 60s on my bikes long before there were and detailers. Also I am a huge Meguires fan. But when something is better it is better. I try everything and believe me there are much better detalers out there. The best shine I have found out of a detailer is Eagle one wet. And another one is Honda polish, The worst ...Kawasaki shine up or something like that. Real garbage. I also have some of the Eagle one wax as you dry. Didn't work all that well. Give the Nano Wax a rip, Use it like a detailer, Decent product. Listen my garage is littered with all the different products I try, some good some bad, I have a black Silverado SS to test this crap on. The Vette gets Zaino.

When I wax, which is usually every wash, I use Magiures # 26, yellow wax, what a lot of the body shops use around here. Easy on-off. Wax on ,wax off...

Try Protect All ...... you can get samples from them for $1.00 each with free shipping.
I've used from top to bottom on the C14, easy on easy off incredible finish on the paint,
cee baileys screen and metal. It does NOT leave a shine or residue on the black plastic parts. It just works great ....
