KTM Unveils 1190 RC8 Superbike in Milan

from KTM...

KTM, the leader in the production of sports motorcycles celebrates a milestone in the company history with the world premiere of the first ever "Made in Austria" Superbike, the KTM 1190 RC8 at EICMA, the most important international motorcycle fair.

KTM CEO Stefan Pierer unveiled the 1190 RC8 to herald a new era in the company history. KTM presented the series version of the most elaborate development project ever undertaken by the company, which is at the same time the most powerful series motorcycle ever developed in Austria.

"The RC8 is the perfect embodiment of the collective know-how and the sporting passion of our development teams. In addition, they have proven that KTM is capable of pushing through its own model strategy and in doing so, being absolutely true to our clear brand philosophy, also on the road," Pierer commented when introducing the RC8 at the Milan fair.

The world's leading manufacturer of offroad bikes has already proved itself with its innovations and has also caused a sensation with its outstandingly dynamic factory riders on the road racing circuit. Now KTM takes another crucial step towards having a complete range of unmistakable sports machines.

At the very heart of the 1190 RC8 is the completely newly developed super sporty two-cylinder based on the well known LC8 range of engines, which, with a top performance of 155 hp and a maximum amount of torque of 120 Nm delivers an overwhelming amount of power to the rider. A unique light tubular steel frame, highest quality suspension and brake components and unusual technical solutions such as the exhaust positioned under the bike complete the 1190 RC8, which weighs just 200kg with a full tank. The result is a Superbike that truly lives up to its name in every sense of the word.

With this brand new development, KTM also takes a new direction in the bike's appearance. The concept of chief designer Gerald Kiska continues the notion o f integrating high quality technology into the bike in a purist and very visible way. As a genuine KTM, the 1190 RC8 also exhibits its pure motor racing genes even from a distance. The new KTM Superbike, available in both colour variations of orange/black and white/black will be available from March 2008, just in time for the start of the new motorcycle season.

dude youre out of your mind, the tube frame and swingarm are awesome, as is the slick instrument panel, brembo calipers and full float rotors and what looks to be a great suspension. 155bhp and weighs 440lbs wet with a full tank.
i doubt this would ever be street legal in the US, and this is much closer in comparison to a ducati than an r1. this thing is CLEAN!

I like this Duke, well said CS.

I chose an R1 over a Duc 1098 for my latest purchase. Even though by the time I have the mods right on the R1 the bike is going to end up costing me a lot more than the Duc would've. The Duc is out of the crate right.

My stealth comment really had to do with the sharp angles on the bodywork.Either earlier this year or last, the manufacturers were pushing stealth shaped models.Just a little too trendy for me.I wish them luck tho as I like seeing things not so mainstream succeed.

I knew you meant the sharp angles, my point was the angles combined with the bike in flight REALLY proved your point to me when I saw that pic up there

That KTM orange paint does nothing for me either, I think its supposed to be flat. Another site has all the colors.... but I won't go there from here :P

It looks like a transformer that got a spark plug stuffed up its behind before it was done transforming!
And is it just me, or dose that gauge panel look really hard to read at any speed, and nearly impossible during a bright day? Hope it doesnt make it to the dealer floor that way.

Interesting bueullesque exhaust. The upper fairing styled differently then other sportbikes. What does120nm convert to,cause I like torque bikes. Is 440 lbs. about where the other bikes weigh when full?

I would like to see what it looks like with an exhaust system. I like some of the styling but that upper fairing has to go, The cluster looks good.
