I rode the 1098 Ducati this past Monday. The local dealer had the corporate van load of Ducati's for us to play with.

The 1098 is an amazing machine. Not as quick in a straight line as the other inline 4 Jap bikes, but it is by no means a slow machine. Lots of low end grunt, wheelies off throttle in the bat of eye off throttle in first and second with no problem. Lots of usable power without the need to get deep into the rev range.

I have never ridden any machine that feels as close to how planted the1098 feels in a corner. It is absolutely on rails. I had a chance to put it through a couple of high speed sweepers and numerous slower speed corners.

The Ducati seemed to be telling me...'That all you got for pace mack?..............Yawn! This is one seriously good handling machine.

Ergonomics were no more punishing than most current SS machines.

Not sure if I am a big fan of the digital tach and speedo. Hard to see in direct sunlight.

The brakes are also very, very powerful.............almost too much for a street driven bike. As I posted in another thread, the Brembo's caught up with me later in the day whie on a S4S 1000. (Still trying to get over the bruises from that spill)\

Hi ZREXER,

That's exactly it, All three Ducati's I've owned have never been as quick in a straight line as the Jap 4's. But I new that when I bought them, just as thay don't produce more BHP, it's never worried me. But all three were a hoot in the twisties. Hope you recover after your "off" and don't take to long to mend.

Cheers
Reggie

As I posted earlier this week......I crashed a Ducati S4S while on a demo ride. Cage was in process of swerving into me, I grabbed a little too much front brake, ended up tucking the wheel and going airbourne. The Ducati guys warned the group that the top end bikes have serious brakes................I guess I should have taken it to heart more! Car missed me by inches according to rider behind me,my sliding bike almost hit the back of the cage that swerved in to me

Still in a lot of pain, but also grateful for no broken bones or any serious injuries.

Bought a new helmet today, rest of my gear now looks broken in!
