Good article, after searching internet for a while found this one.
But It would be nice to know the following:
1. What bike was bought
2. What was the retail in USA and CAN
3. What was the final price paid in USA
4. What was the total spent (extra) for tranportation+tax+ins
5. nice to know name of the dealer in Oregon.
I am planning to buy Kawasaki ZX-6R 2007, $9000 USD, $12,000 CAD, a $3000 diff.

In this case the bike was a 1098 Ducati purchased from Bend Euro Moto in Oregon. Total savings after dust settles... $5000 . Transport a non issue... drove there and back and own a trailer. Not that far away.

[quote=Martinc]Show me...I dont see the worldwide mention nor anything that would suggest that you can buy there and warranty service here.
I'd like it to be true and want to make sure to rub my salesman nose in it.
You word is not enough, need a link.

I see that people are questioning about warranty, Here is a snippet from Ducati Website regarding warranty:
Is the Ducati warranty valid at all official dealers?
Yes. For your safety, and to preserve the validity of the warranty and the value of your bike, Ducati highly recommends that you always refer to the official Ducati service network. To find your nearest dealer click here.
What kinds of damage are covered by the warranty?
All those which Ducati verifies and recognises as deriving from manufacturing faults.
Is the warranty cover valid outside my country too?
Yes, it is valid worldwide.

ICBC does not cover Albertans. I'm going to trailer my new Ducati from the USA to Alberta, does anybody know what insurance company will cover theft and damage "special coverage" in Alberta? I need to know this in less than 5 hours! I leave shortly on the trip... I'm such an idiot :P

online search options
Hi there -
Great article on importing. I know you mentioned oregon as a good place to purchase bikes because of their no tax policy, but just as important, what online sites can you visit to narrow down the type of bike you wish to buy?
And, do you generally purchase from dealerships as opposed to private sales?
Thanks

Thanks Fish, Great Read. I was looking for this info. A friend of mine buys the Victory Motorcycles in the US rides them for two seasons here in Canada and then sells them for the price he paid in the US. So in a since he rides for free. He claims it's Easy. Info like this will now make it Easy for me as well. Great detail. Much better than I got from him lol. Cheers.
