Yeah, No S models left in our neck of the woods. I paid for mine today at Salem Ducati. It's the one they have for the open house this wknd. They get 5 more standards with deposits on 4, but no more S models. Saturday @ 4:00 I shove it in the trailer and head for home. They are roping it off, so no sit on's for squids at the open house.
Really, I lucked into this because I became aggrivated when MotoCorsa ( where I initially placed a deposit for an S ) wouldn't tell me straight out how many they were getting, had taken deposits on etc....... Salem charged me no freight/ set up, and threw in the license and title for $19999............. And YES, the stock cans on the S sound bitchin' Can't wait for Saturday afternoon.........although I must admit it will be fun to watch people lusting after MY Ducati........lucky sperm I am

It really does make you wonder if marketing for Ducati really had a grip on the production #'s they might need. Yeah, I think the 1098 stock or S is really going to be a FUN streetbike, and you'll never get tired of looking at it in the garage. Compared to my trusty old R1 initial sit-on type impressions are that it's VERY narrow between the legs, feels real light, and it's relatively tall for a 5'9" 170lb frame like mine. Doesn't seem any crueler in riding ergo's than the Yamaha on which I've logged 56K ( and really, WHO CARES??), and the motor spins up quick , light flywheel maybe........ Hope you find one if you're really after it. I'm hoping POSSIBLY for a dry afternoon here Saturday afternoon so I could start the breakin with a 50 mile ride home. We'll see

Hi All
Spare a thought for the guys over the Atlantic, There is only one Ducati dealer in the Republic of Ireland, they (apparently) have 35 1098's coming in, about half and half (1098 and 1098s).
All sold, if you want a 1098 in ireland you gotta rob one (good luck with that) or wait till the middle of next year.
Still awaiting my 1098s (due this month)
Cheers
Reggie

My guy here in Bend, OR, claims to be getting a pretty good number. I'm number 2 for a standard, the S is gone, but on display. Maybe it's worth a call. (NO sales tax in Oregon.....)
He's a straight shooter, tell him I sent 'ya.

Good for you Reggie, a pretty exclusive club you'll be in for at least a year there it seems. The standard models from Salem have deposits from Portland and 3 from Seattle. It's not exactly sportbike central here ( Philomath) but to my immediate left are a couple of the best motorbike roads in the state.
I can't really imagine a big demand in Bend either. Anyways, I'll bet I don't run into more than a handful over here during the course of our riding season . Strange, isn't it?

The Bend dealer, Euro Moto, is quite active. You'd be surprised. A LOT of folks visit here, you know. Some take the bike home with them or leave them here "at the weekend house".

Oh no. I understand there's $$$$ over there. Don't get me wrong, coming over the Santiam your way is one of my favorite little loops, other than being so rough above Mtn house and so BORING to Sisters and beyond.......... Just a general observation. There ARE NOT that many hard core sportriders in our general vicinities. I literally live at the base of Mary's Peak and the #'s of sportbike guys compared to cruisers is maybe 10-1.........
I just think in Oregon ( at least outside the Metro Starbucks areas), you won't meet yourself coming the other way too often. Enjoy your new toy :-)

Absolutely correct. When I moved here 12 years ago, I had the ONLY sportbike in town. It was a couple years before I saw another. It was truly culture shock for me coming from the very bike oriented SF area.

Doug, Since we are so close geographically we should meet at some point. My riding mates are all expert club level racers, not an idiot in the bunch. Just fun. Look at the OMRRA site for #'s 73, 95, and 169. We only do endrance stuff now because we enjoy each others company, and we are older, not wanting to Redmist ourselves totally in 7 lap sprint races, but barring a mechanical or crash ( we had both this year) we run up front.
My first Sponsor and mechanic lives over towards you too, and is friendly with the Bend Duc dealer. Let me know and I'll mail you off line. Ta ta

Bently, Troy @ Salem Honda, BMW, Ducati just told me he is getting 2 standard 1098 models in yellow that do not have deposits on them. As Doug said, no sales tax in Oregon, and these guys were square with me all the way. I'm waiting on the factory rear stand, hopefully it'll be here today or tomorrow. Supposed to be dry and 60 here Saturday :-)

The problem is that all 1098 bikes are being made "to order" and not just for importers/dealers stockpiles, like the Japs do.
My dealer told me when I went to chase my "March" delivery. Apparently the factory were not geared up for the 5000+ that have ben ordered by the US, so back here in the little old UK, our orders (a mere 650+) have been put on the "back burner" and are running at least 3 weeks late! I understand that the whole Bologna facility has been turned over to 1098 production to try and clear the backlog.
At least this way, my late delivery bike will have been caught in the recall net and had the "known" problems fixed. If you aren't aware, so far these are the leaking fuel clips on lines from the tank, fitting smaller diameter cambelt adjustment pulleys to stop them fouling the cambelt cover and replacement mirrors (the springs holding the LED's in are too strong and can smash the mirror glass).
You early delivery boys should check with your dealers, especially on the cambelt pulley issue as this could be significant.

I've got a line on a couple... only issue right now are dealers suffering from Laguna Seca Moto GP jack- the-price-syndrome...
Guess they haven't had anyone interested in switching to a Duc in years...
I can tell you one thing... DNA needs to have a "chat" with their dealer network IMHO... the dealers could very easily kill a really good thing if they keep this up! It would be a shame to see the dealer network screw up the release of such a cool motorcycle!

No not yet, Have to sell my Vette first anyway to many toys right now. But I won't pay over list for one when I do start looking if that's the game they are going to start playing I will go with a new GSXR 1000 in orange and black and put a set of gold wheels and gold rear sets and upgrade the suspension. I'm sure Ducati worked there ass off to beable to sell that bike for the price they set, like fish said dealers jacking the price up will kill it.

...how true....MSRP is not asking too much for this bike....adding a "market adjustment" to the MSRP when Ducati appears to be on the right track to lure more riders to the duckpond would kill it...then again, while you and I complain and hold out, there will be those who just gotta have it and pay what the market will bear while you and I sit on our 10R and 12R drinking our 7-11 coffee across from Starbucks......
