Well, Krukov has a '05 636 with extensive mods, and that bike hangs with all but the fastest 1000's. Every ride we go on, the bigbore guys are bitching about that damn little '600' staying ahead of them, even on the straights. They also 'complain' about that fact that he never lets it drop below 9k when we are in the twisties. Is a bit loud lol. He just makes sure of two things: that he is ALWAYS in his power band, and that he is the first one on the gas (being lead bike helps ). Never fails, there is always smirks from the guys on the 1000's at the beginning of the ride. And headshaking interrogations afterwards when he graciously gives them there ass back.
He's dropped alot of weight on the bike, but he weighs 180 I believe. Power wise, no internal mods. And he can pull 3rd gear power wheelies with only a -1 countersprocket.
Any of you guys who plan on doing rides in Washington State with the other bikelanders will meet him, Im sure. So be ready.

I know what you mean by the 636 keeping up. Everyone messed with me about needing a 1000 and I was like whatever. Once in a while I got comments about all they saw when they turned their head a little was my front tire. They of course are a lot faster but I never got left behind and I stayed in front of some of them. That bike loves the rpms and I actually loved the bike. This 1000 is more fun I think because it feels better to me. Kind of like a fast dirtbike. The power is honestly too much for my liking. I tell myself all the time I should have gotten the 750.

A good friend owns a zx636, and other than to pull out and pass at tripple didgit speeds he keeps up just fine with the 14, not twisty here either.
He has to hold it open longer, and it results in really poor fuel mileage, but it works good.

Funny about that aint it? My friends 636 gets consistently worse gas mileage when we are on it than both my zx14 or my old TL1000R. For that matter, bone stock ridden mildly it only got 36 mpg. Low twenties in the twisties on the gas now. And he loves to use avgas, too! Like $7 a gallon. hehe

Avgas? WHY?? Waste money and hurt the performance of his bike! Why do people just assume more octane means more hp?? He'd GAIN 5+hp if he used 87 octane!

actually it helped the performance considerably. With it in I was dead even with him, all the way to 150mph. On pump gas I could pull him noticealby. (gas is oxygenated in washington state, you lose between 5-10% of your power using it.) He mixed it 50/50 with 87 octane since it is 105 octane. Other than the white residue on his pipe, no problems! Smells just like MR9, too.

If gas is oxygenated there, then you would GAIN from it. What do you think makes gas like MR9 so good?

Jeez man do the research. The version of oxygenation you are referring to is when you take GOOD gas and and oxygenation - which raises the octane if you use ethanol/alcohol to do it. The crap we buy is lower octane crap gas that they add 20%+ ethanol to to bring its numbers up. Trust me, study after study after study has shown 3 things: It makes less power - up to 20% less. It gets worse gas mileage - up to 20% worse. And it tends to erode injectors and some fuel pumps. Not to mention the ground water contamination issues..
It's why the state of washington pulled back the requirement for gas stations to carry it. Too late, though. Once that tax incentive making genie is out, the gas companies are going to ride it to the bank.
FYI: Me and my brother did numerous back to back, multi vehicle tests using both the 10% and 20% ethanol ratios available at the time, using Snohomish county gas stations (only nearby county that didnt require it) as our standard. And yes, we also used gas cans so that varying gas pump meters would not cause it. We did it for "3rdgen.com" where he was a moderator/columnist.
PS: we only ran dyno on his Iroc, though, same day 2 hours apart (had to drive it until it ran out of gas inbetween). 92 octane base gas: 302 hp. 20% ethanol 92 octane gas: 285 hp. (prior to enrichening to 12.7 to 1 A/F it was 279hp)
