does this offer any more ground clearance or just for adjusting the suspension stiffness?

No more ground clearance, but it changes the rate of the spring basically. You basically have an infinite number of spring rates, to fine tune the suspension.
It works great. I could adjust it from bad track, and hook, to good track, and go 3.72 330 times..., etc.
