FS 2001 ZX12R turbo
After many years...much more money than expected..and tons of work...I am at a point in my life where drag bikes just dont do it for me.
I am selling my ZX12R turbo project.
It is a 2001 ZX12R (originally silver) with roughly 8000 total miles on it (practically zero miles after turbo...just never rode it).
I would say the bike is 95% complete....runs...rides...zero mechanical issues whatsoever...just needs that extra 5% to be perfect.
Made 300rw at 11psi on the dyno at Stock Mild to Wild...the motor is 100% stock...untouched from the factory (and is the original motor from the bike). I bought the bike brand new and have been the only owner since 2002.
Title is clean...and still remains street legal (although its IMO to long and low to ride on the street). All fabrication and turbo work done by speedfab (http://www.tgfab.com).
While this certainly isnt an exhaustive parts list...its what I can come up with off the top of my head...and im just looking for a price range from those of you who have more experience than I at selling bikes of this nature.
- Spencercycle 3-10" adjustible swingarm with custom bracing (currently set around 9")
- Brand new DRZ non oring chain
- Brand new front and rear RC components drag rims (rear is 6" wide and has custom rear rotor/brake assembly)
- Practically new MT shootout tire (less than 10 miles on tire)
- Muzzy extended tail (has a small crack in seat)
- Goodrich Stainless braided brake lines
- Tial 44mm vband wategate
- MTC multistate lockup clutch
- muzzy billet clutch basket w/ drilled hub
- muzzy oil filter relocation kit
- masterlube oil accumulator system
- custom cut down and widened oil pan
- Greddy electronic peak/hold/warning 2 bar boost gauge
- Turbonetics T3/To4B hybrid turbo
- Muzzy/DTA standalone ECU and harness installed(also has stock ecu)
- Tial 50mm BOV
- 321 stainless header with integrated wastegate pre-turbo
- polished 304SS dump tubes
- modded throttles with RC Eng 720cc injectors
- Muzzy high volume fuel pump
- other various mods include:
- Cut down factory tank(originally intended for LSR)
- shortened radiator(only two fins)
- airbox completely sealed with welds vs plugs
- custom short fox shock with stock 12R spring (i really would replace this with a nice drag application if I were going to race it seriously...or have it revalved)
The main reasons its not 100% are the low end tuning,...with the massive injectors we tuned the high end to run great...but it fouled the plugs quite quickly if it idled for extended periods of time...and we just never got back to the dyno to tune the low side or driveability. With these massive injectors...it gets plenty of fuel...and I never intended it to be a streetbike.
Also the right side fairing cracked in the center mounting hole....so it would have to be plastiwelded back if you wanted to install it. I believe I have a stock uncut fairing that will go with the bike if I can find it. (one of many things lost in the move).
So basically...this bike has sat for over a year since we put it on the dyno to originally test/tune the setup...different arenas of my life changed and I sold my busa as well....just lost interest.
I am straight up and do not want to fool anyone into thinking this is a turnkey bike...that last 5% could turn out to be a nightmare in itself trying to tune the lowside and driveability...all I ever got up to was finishing the install..and putting it on the dyno to see if I could make 300RW with a stock motor 12...which I did.
So with all that...I was hoping for something around $10K

Someone with 10K better jump on this. No expense has been spared, beautiful work. 
So damn close. 
If i had the coin, I'd just bring it back to kevin, let him sort the fuel thing out, and hit the Mile!!!

Hmmmm? A couple of ways to cure the large injector issue. One cost a lot and the other not so bad. (A) Motec unit and 8 injector system. (B) A really good FMU unit and hope it does the trick. I would try (B) first

From my understanding....the Muzzy/DTA ems should be able to correct all this...it would just take a significant amount of dyno time and knowledge of the DTA software to work it all out.
One of the reasons whoever gets it needs to know (or be willing to learn) the archaic DTA system.
General opinions on DTA is that it works very very well...but its very very cumbersome to configure...almost like comparing ip addresses(DTA) to host names (current ems software)

Yea the dyno time will cost a mint and thestress on the motor would be an issue to consider. The Motec cost a ton but with that you can take it to NLR and have it tuned up no time. But again the cost of the Motec is staggering.. But you save the motor wear and tons of time on the motor pump. It's a beautiful bike and a very tempting project..

id gander any aftermarket ecu would work....the muzzy ems came with its own coils...and uses regular plugs (replacing the stick coils from the factory).
It also piggybacks into the stock 12R harness...I am not sure if the stock computer is even needed anymore...but its still in the back just in case.
The other item is the crank trigger....the muzzy ecu came with its own...it has fewer teeth than the stocker and is made of billet aluminum. Im not sure if it would work with a motec or another standalone...not really sure how all that works in conjunction with each system.
Although im sure technology today has advanced enough that these new systems can take any trigger signal and process it accordingly.

Id always expected to get to this level...ride it till it popped...then replace the internals with unbreakable shit and turn the boost up.
