Carbon Fiber Airbox-Oh Baby !!

No lightweight Busa is complete without this tasty treat. Gonna need a clear gas tank so everyone can see or maybe an auxiliary tank since the airbox is seven lbs. lighter. I bet someone is working on a carbon fiber frame like the Ducatis. LSL

Only $899.

Star Racing, the drag folks. A modified stock one works awfully well for $20. on eBay but I guess minus 7lbs. is nice if your budget is unlimited.

7lbs is a pretty substantial weight cut.

I have 4 or 5 stock ones laying around. I could probably weigh one for you if you really wanted to know.

With the flapper valve, air filter, and all the other junk in there I wouldn't be shocked if it weighed 8-10lbs.

Larry are you the one that bought it already? If you did Let me know how I can contact you. I just wanted to ask a few question about the box. The folks at Star couldn't answer my question because someone from the North East area who is into LSR bought it already and they don't have any more in stock yet.

cheers

Ken

sorry I didn't see your response sooner.

What does the floor inside the box look like? What's the transition between the lower chamber and upper chamber look like? How thick is a CF (how many mm). IS the inside smooth or unfinished? Lastly the flange theat goes around the box... how thick is it and how far out is it entended from the body of the box.

Sorry guys,

I make the airbox and did the testing.

Question 1: Regarding floor
The floor, meaning the inside of the bottom section of the airbox, is a vacuum bagged finish. In other words peel ply texture. The floor is smooth due to the open designed bag formed process. The entire box is made with 100% aircraft grade epoxy pre-preg carbon fiber. The reason it is so light is the material and the process of using an autoclave. The autoclave is completely computer controlled so we run the same program that brings temperature and pressure up to speed at the same time and duration. This provides us with repeatability and consistent finished products. The best materials, molds, and equipment available were used for this airbox. Honestly, it is an elegant piece.

Question 2: Transition
Transition is a non issue because the mating of the two parts of the box is sealed with black epoxy. The transition is smoother than the floor because of the epoxy.

Question 3: Thickness of CF
1 mm

Question 4: Inside
See answer to question 1

Question 5: Flange
The flange is 3/16 and is 2 mm thick

I hope I helped.

Don
