If you plan to go with a turbo I would definitely grab the Boosa (even a 1st gen Boosa will do), I don't like how the Kaw has the engine cases and jugs as a one piece unit, seems like a nightmare if you ever have to do some engine work.

if you are going with bolt-ons its a toss up.

well.. I;m in the middle of typing out a huge review of the Busa - so I dont wanna type it twice...

I think the Suzuki has the 14 on overall build quality... it strikes me that you can tell that they've had a few more years into the bike than Kawi... both bikes are damn close in performance, and neither are that pleasing to the eye.

Fish, where's the review?

well... I'm getting ready for tax time, so the review's going to have to wait prolly a month or so to be honest.

A month
You must be writing a novel or something.
We want it in many pages too

Most of you Knuckleheads aren't good enough riders to ever be able to discern the difference betwen a busa and a 14. So for you, talking about any disparity in performance between the 2 bikes is a moot point. Give it a frigin break., Including you, fish.

I can still jump on my old obsolete 12 and run away from most of you guys,

And for you, bigwhore biker, the one piece case and cylinder is a far stronger design, so don't talk shite when you haven' t a clue.

Well, you might be right be right.

I am prepared to discover that I have bought two bikes for one job. If I never feel compitent to run at 230mph on a turbo charged busa, I still had the two most awesome bikes the new millenium had to offer. There is a lot of learning that can happen in the next 5-6 years but the time to buy a G2 busa is now. 08's are available and they should be a couple grand cheaper than 09.

Hang on to your old 12 as long as you want. I'll take a busa or an 09 gix 1000 over that any day. I'm already lucky enough to own a 14 and I love it no matter how much better any other riders might be on whatever bike they ride.

Thank you to both Bigbores for opinions on turboing a 14. It is extremely helpful to see both sides of the coin.

If you want to boost a big bike the 14's the machine to go with. The new busa is very boost un-friendly because of the TI valves and the higher compression. 4-6 is the max you can go The first gen busa at the same boost levels puts out 20+ less hp than a 14. Plus the 14's big airbox volume keeps the low end response the same as stock. For boost, overall the 14's the better choice

You're getting me back on track. I can use all of that kind of info I can get.

Changing valves and putting in a head spacer doesn't seem like much building to bring the G2 busa up to heavier boost standards though. If you go with major boost, you're going to have to upgrade rods, crankshaft, all kinds of stuff - no matter what bike you start with. Right?

Shot peened valves on the G2 busa are not as strong as our 14's valves?

I need your expertise around here, BnB. Hope we get PMs back some day soon.

I have seen 1st GEN busas lay down 320 at the rear tire on pump gas @ 12 psi with a MCX kit.

The one piece cylinder/case of the 14 is gonna cause some problems if you happen to ruin a jug for any reason, with the Suzuki you can just pop off the jugs and repair/replace, with the Kaw ya gotta replace the whole assembly.

Good points BigBore I was just saying boosting them stock for stock. Once you start modding engines they all become ridiculous strong. I was torn between boosting my first gen busa or my 14. The busa would have been wayyy cheaper, but the 14 would give more bang for the boost. I ended up finding an awesome used kit for the 14 so it worked out well

Rook sounds like you need a second bike. I would not be concerned over a few HP nor the fact some race jockey thinks the Busa may handle better while riding at limits that 99.9% of us could not achieve even on a race track. The difference between the bikes in terms of performance is not worth mentioning it’s simply a moot point. If you look at things that really matter in a street bike which is most zx14 and Busa will spend 99% of there time. The zx14 is the bike to ride "hands down". The Busa has GSXR1000 like ergonomics but certainly won't handle like one so I have no idea what you would get in return for your suffering. The zx14 has better brakes which are far more important on a street bike than 1/100 of a second in the 1/4 mile achieved by a pro rider. The zx14 is smoother as real world ergonomics, better wind protection, better lights and a better clutch. These things are simply what matters on the street. If you want the fastest, quickest, best handling bike with great suspension stay away from the ZX14 and the Busa and get a new liter bike. Also sent you a PM

Thanks Willid. Good to hear from you again. I'm also considering a literbike but I think buying a new one is a little less important because it is only going to be the quickest for a couple years before something else beats it. Might as well wait a couple years and buy used---maybe???

Far as I can tell, PMs are not working yet. Thanks for trying the PM. Happy to hear any comments here on the forum, though.

That’s true BigboreBiker at least for me and apparently you too. However wouldn't that depend on the rider and the type of riding you do? I'm sure guys on Goldwings would see the zx14 or Busa as a torture device in terms of riding position. Yet someone that rides a zx10 might feel a zx14 is very comfortable.

Hey I understand I have been talking myself out of a new zx10 all winter long but I have a feeling the first string of 65 degree days we have I will fall victim to the new bike bug. I’ll keep my 14 because it’s simply too good to get rid of and its fits me best for the type of ridding I like to do most of the time. In fact there is a place in WI that will let an 08 zx10 black or green go for 8400 plus tx that’s the cheapest I have come across in the Midwest. Hey Rook if you ever want to ride shoot me an email at willidx4@gmail.com. Three of us from Lake County IL ride just about every Sunday. Rides range from 350-600 miles a day. The next weekend we have a mid 60 degree day we are heading to Spring Green WI to the twisties.

Spring Green!! That's out past Madison headed toward Mineapolis - No? That's nice country. Never been there on a bike. I'd be very interested in riding out there. I got your email in the adress book. Have sent you mine via above email adress.
