Using a dry chemical process. Called none ionic cleaning solvent. They put my leathers in a machine that is also used for suits etc. And they come back Bright in color and looking new. There is a leather cleaning kit i have seen that can be used in a home washer but i never tryed it. I guess it also has a bit to do with the leather also, as with everything there are many grades of the stuff and how it's made. My leathers are Alpinestars Gp race replica and say dry clean only, so it never crossed my mind to wash them with soap & water. I think part of the problem with dry cleaning at home is the disposal of the chemical.

I wouldn't be so sure that dry cleaners actually "dry clean" your leathers. Many of them use a wet process similar to the steps outlined in the leather cleaning topic in the smackhouse.
what they do with your stuff when you leave it with them is really a bit of a mystery, isn't it?

True ! Who knows what they do maybe they just wash the bastards, But if i find that to be true. Those pricks owe me some money. Not counting my suits that i dont have to wear anymore.
The big Mystery is how shitty there english is and they have been in the same location for 20 years.
I am due for a new set this year but before i buy, I will toss-em in the washer just for a little test.

The only thing bad about using soap and water on leathers is it can wash out oils, waterproofing (if any), and preservatives added during the tanning process. And the leathers are never quite as supple. I have done it on many occasions, because sometime they just get too funky.

Agree TedG ! Thinking of Kevlar for my new protection, Tests show much better protection than leather and you can toss-em in the washer.

Yep, my kevlar suit is an easy clean for sure. Tho i don't think i'll try them in a top loading washer. Be worried about destroying the washer when the suit gets wrapped up around the agitator. I've only cleaned it in front loading/tumble washings. As to the "much better protection", i havent seen anything conclusive on that. The odd partial test that had good results, and alot of scientific reasons for them to be better, but hardly seen anything truly convincing either way (and this coming from a veggie who won't buy leathers for ethical reasons).
Anyway, that's a topic for another thread. In fact, i saw one lately on just this...

I read one time that although Kevlar (depending on how it is made)is equal to and or better than certain leathers, the problem is it can heat up burns the rider, and again depending on how it is made can melt and really burn the rider. Where leather wont melt and is not as bad about transferring heat.

Ted, i've read a debunking of the melting claim at some point (but not definitive either, liek the claims to the counter), but more importantky i went from about 50mph to 0 sliding on concrete and felt narry an effect from heat, with zero evidence of melting on my suit. Perhaps it wouldnt hold true if it were a 150mph drop tho, no idea.

Kevlar will burn if you hold a source next to it.
But once the source is removed it will stop burning.
It is rated by DuPont as "Fire Resistant" NOT FIRE PROOF.
The quality of Kevlar fabric that is used to make fire blankets and protects from welding sparks is
.026" thick and is good up to 750 F.
I wouldn't say that Kevlar cloth used in motorcycle gear is as good as what is in "Real" safety equipment - like a heat rated fire blanket - so I wouldn't be standing in your "Made In China" Kevlar suit in front of a jet engine or even sit into you gas fireplace to test it out.
But the short answer is YES, Kevlar does Burn.

?????
Your suit has melted patches out of it...
Which is letting in more UV rays which is further breaking down your Kevlar.

This is a mistake I initially made too when I looked at the damage. Eventually I realized the "melted" parts are just where the lycra had been removed, presumably due to simple friction since lycra has little strength. The Kevlar fibers remain perfectly intact, tho they are spaced quite thinly. Apparently this is to allow for stretch, provided by the lycra of course.
And yes, no doubt there is zero UV protection left in the spots with the lycra worn off.

It wouldn't fox HILL if we flattened it out, we would have to rename it Fox Flats
They call it Fox Hill because there is a fox that lives there. I have seen it 5 or 6 times. Also, the last couple of years I,ve seen more Bobcats than usual.

I was waiting to see what worked best for others, but doesn't seem anyone is chiming in! I was thinking Thurs would be ideal.
Of course if anyone was planning on arriving Wed, it woudl be great if they can stake the claim for BIkeland, just in case.
Anyone here planning on a Wed arrival?
