Adam, as long as you realize it will change the handling of the bike, then go ahead. It will make the bike feel more sluggish/slow responding when turning. The more you lower, the more slugguish it will feel. Kinda like having really low tire pressure.
Most lowering links on the market provide you with several choices, stock plus two lower positions (for example). So, you can switch back easily if you need to. For the front, you will need to get a new top clamp that allows the fork legs to come up (thus allowing the front end to come down).
