Cycle World 08 busa test numbers
These are Cycle Worlds 08 busa test numbers. Not shabby...but not what I was expecting either........
This is directly from the Cycle World February 2008 issue page 33 sidebar article....quote "Tipping our scales at 552lbs without fuel, the new bike weighs 20 more lbs than last years. On the Cycle World dyno, the 08 busa put down peak numbers of 171.4 horsepower at 9650 rpm and 102.0 foot-pounds of torque at 7200 rpm. Thats nearly a dozen more ponies than its predecessor-and 1.2 more than the last Kawasaki ZX-14 we tested. Measured top speed as you may have guessed is limited to 186 mph. But it gets there quicker than ever, setting a new CW production-bike-best quarter-mile pass of 9.70 seconds at 148.48 mph along the way."
It kinda backs up the ride I took on my friends 08 tho...quick, yes.
A huge step above everything else? no.

yes, and that was compared to the 07 zx14, not the improved 08zx14 with new head, fuel injection and less restrictive flies... LOL
they should just toss them damn flies in the garbage... until now its been natural selection, why save the stupid now?

Yep, it's a shame about the weight and the tail section.....................but for the small increase
in stroke, its not too shabby. Apparently it was enough for Kawi to have to enhance their 08 ZX14.
Yep, I wish it had 180-190HP.......................but you could always just pick up an old 99 and drop in some pistons and have at least that much.

The only bummer for us 14 guys is the 08 has less peak power because of the over rich condition?Maybe when the ram air kicks in it's a wash.Cheers

Aren't those number contrary to what Brock posted? I am sure he posted something like 177 bone stock.

Brock's dyno is a little optimistic.Always look at same dyno,same day,same operator.

Yea lets not forget they built the K8 ZX14 because of the Busa... Just sayin. Numbers are decent though. Im not an expert but I love my busa.

fair enough... i love my 14
From my reserach, the 06-07 14's make more hp, but the 08 makes more low-end (the ecu opens the flies a bit sooner).
The test I really want to see is...
08 busa, 08 zx14
take out the secondary plates
full exhaust for each (same brand)
pcIII tuned by the same person on the same day
That would be interesting. I would wager that the busa will make more power due to its higher compression. Either way, both bikes are awesome, and I have yet to ride a busa. The competition is great for us because kawi and suzuki keep raiseing the bar. If you would have told and engineer in the late 80's what the factories are releasing to the public in 2008, he/she wouldn't believe you.
