Naked Busa with Carburetors
At Maxton today Steve Knecum set a record of 201 MPH on our team naked Busa. Mark DeLuca was not far behind also setting a record at 199.8 MPH. Mark also raised his 1650 Production record to 208.4 MPH (1999 Busa) Gonna be awhile before a ZX-14 can do that. I heard Brock went 201 with a 2008 Busa but he is using his pipe and oxy-gas. It's fun when you run !!

Cool bike Larry! Couple of questions. Why run carbs? Also did Steve sit in the cradle of the frame or did he sit on the seat? Looks like he could have done either.
Thanks.

Osti: We thought we would try carbs since they make good power on the Pro/Stock bikes and we had a number of parts that needed repair. We put everything together and this is what we got. Steve sits on the seat but this pic was taken last month and now he sits on a flat aluminum plate. I think we might try to add an airbox for ram air next year.

Cool stuff for sure Larry. Thanks for the info. I was just curious because you don't see a lot of bikes running carbs these days.
On another note. I heard that your APS bike in your avatar is not running a radiator. Are you running a dry block or some other method of cooling? I was also told you guys ran a solid strut in the back of the bike. That has to be a little tricky out on the salt. Why the strut over a traditional shock? If these are speed secrects that you don't want to share I understand. I don't know much about land speed racing so I ask a lot of questions. lol.
Do you have a picture of the right side of the APS bike in the avatar? I am curious to see how the pipe mounts up with that tail section.
Thanks,
Ryan

Glad to answer. The water tank allows the front to be closed off for better aerodynamics. Engine is water cooled as usual.Tank adds weight for traction. The only reason I used a stut was because the tire would hit the tank when the shock compressed. My turbo bike has been 250 with a solid rear. Works if the Salt is not too bumpy. LSL

Thanks for taking the time to answer all of my questions Larry. Also thanks for posting the pictures. It really helps people like me understand all of the work that goes into the landspeed bikes. The bodywork on the black APS bike is incredible! It looks like something from the future. It also answers my question about the pipe.Is it a sidewinder or is it a pipe you guys modified?
The video of the turbo bike is truely amazing! Is it me or goes that thing start getting a little lose towards the top end of the track?!?! Holy cow. He just rolls off and then gets back on the throttle. Great bit of riding.
Congrats on all of your records!!! Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the pics and info,
Ryan
