I always wear a helmet. However, note that lowering the g-force imparted by the helmet is a significant consideration for reducing injury. For those sold on the SNELL rating, I suggest reading the hemet tests in Motorcyclist Magazine at the following link:

There's some great info in the above article. Per the above article, DOT and ECE rated hemets are much safer than SNELL approved helmets for 98% of motorcycle accidents.
