What is better, APE manual tensioner or modded ZX12?
I'm already tired of hearing that terrible rattle on startup. I see alot of people run the APE manual tensioner and also read about a modded zx12 tensioner. Anybody know who does the modded zx12 tensioner? I hear it uses a spring to make it self adjusting. what do you think the best route to go here?

Why is that? I see alot of people use the APE manual on these bikes. is there something that is bad about them?

You want to strip the bodywork off and still have lousy access to adjust the thing perennially? The item itself isn't the issue, It's the terrible maintenance access due to the monocoque design of the 14R

I've had the Ape tensioner in my'06 for over 30k miles now, Did the initial adjustment & checked it once. Never had a problem with it, A manual tensioner will never back off tension when you shut down after a run like an hydraulic one can leaving your chain loose. If access is your problem maybe a scooter is more your speed.

I ended up installing one. I didn't have to remove much plastic at all. Very easy to adjust and has been working fine for 1000 miles.
