So long zx14r hello BUSA
Thanks for all the great advice on the zx14 but after 1 1/2 years on the 14r I've moved back to the busa and couldn't be happier.
Too many issues with my 14r. Maybe one day Kawasaki will get it right but for now its not quite ready.

Just asking as an honest question, don't take it any wrong way or anything, but what exactly did Kawi get wrong with the ZX14 or ZX14R?
Maybe myself, and a few local buddies that all own 14 are extremely lucky, but I can't think of a single hiccup from my 14, or my buddies that I ride with locally either.
Again, not trying to offend offhand, but I'm genuinely curious what "broke" or what happened to your motorbike in particular.
Also, just as a side note, as passive as you thought your post might have been, posting "happier now with a Busa than with a ZX14" in a ZX14 FORUM is a little trollish no?
I mean, you either are baiting for people to reply negatively,or you truly got a defective/bad motorbike, but I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt here which is why I pose my initial question above. I just think you post could have been worded a bit differently, because most people will agree that Kawasaki has only hit the nail on the head over and over, whereas Suzuki is kinda just.... well... I'll say no more..

Not a troll sir ordered part from people on this site.
To answer your question I had #3and #4 bearing go at about 1600 miles, it was fixed under warranty thanks Kaw for standing behind your product I really glad they did. Second problem was when it got hot it would no shift past to second gear, found out that three ball bearings in transmission need to be removed also found that oil cover needs to be replaced to get better oiling.
I have four friends that have had blown motors two are on this site two are not. That's a total of five people I no. I also have two friends on this site that have had no issues as have most of you guys.
For those that no me will tell you I gave the 14 a good shot but I race my bike and the 20hp and 10f ft/lbs of torque are not worth what you give up.
If I were to only ride to work and bike nights only I would have keep the 14r it performed well for that.
zx12mark I don't consider going back to a busa as going backwards my friend I race allot and I'm allot more comfortable on the busa as it lower than the zx14r.
J_ZX14 most people will agree that Kawasaki has only hit the nail on the head yes as I said if I were to only want to ride back and forth to work or bike nights I would have kept the 14r.
The busa does not need me to make sure traction control is off every pass.
The busa lets me do a burnout in any gear I chose without locking me in first.
The busa does not have -30 hp drop because of extra safety feature.
The busa does not to have fly's removed .
I no you can flash the 14r because I had my done by Mr. J cheese yeah. but you don't have too on the busa.
Also the busa I can flash my self this is worth more to me than the 20 hp of the 14 alone,
If you ask anyone here that flashes there busa they will tell you it way out does anything you can do not only on the 14 but any other bike. Shift kill , two step, NO2 control, timing, Boost control and I could go on but you get the point. see as a drag racer these things can mean more than 20 hp.
Also I was pissed to find out I have to tear my motor apart and as you put it take a step backwards and but a genI transmission in my bike if I want to but a MTC in it. Now like I said I race but if all I wanted to do is drive to bike night the 14 would be ok.
The 14r is faster yes but most people that race will tell you consistency is what wins races and tht most races have classes so being faster means nothing unless your heads up or outlaw.
So yes I'm happier for my type of riding.
So yes I'm happier for easy maintenance access to the motor means allot to racers.
So yes I'm happier for aftermarket support.
So yes I'm happier for easy to find parts that are cheap, racer break stuff.
So yes I'm happier for me and for the friends I've made on this site.
I'll miss the smooth ride of the 14.
I'll miss the comfortable ride of the 14.
I'll miss the traction control of the 14.
I'll miss the easy oil changes of the 14.
I'll miss the clock and shift light setup of the 14.
I'll still be here because there are some pretty smart guys here that own both bikes.
I hope it dose not seem so odd to you now Mr. fish_antlers

Fair enough bud,
Although, most of the things on your list that you dislike or think detract from the 14 (Fly removal, "burnouts at will"?, traction control on/off, flashing and its ease of, are more YOUR opinions...
Just because you say things in "a matter of fact" kind of way does not make them anymore true.
Someone with experience in doing all the above, easily, could flip the list around and say its backwards...
But hey, perception is reality, and in yours, your ONE bad experience with ONE ZX14 was enough to send you to another make, and I'm sure the members here will wish you the best of luck and hope that you get a GOOD motorbike from Suzuki... If not maybe on to Yamaha? Honda?
And about it seeming ODD to Fish, well.... it will always seem ODD when you dis Kawasaki motorbikes in a Kawasaki forum... then go on to say that you are "better off" with the closest thing to "competition" Kawasaki has (which is more like Honda in my opinion than Suzuki these days...) ,,,,
Kawasaki has not gotten anything "wrong", in fact, it seems to me and many others (including riders on other makes) that Kawasaki has been the only group making things quite right.
See H2....
So the 14 was not "for you", hey I'm cool with that, I too only wish you the best in which ever make you land in next... excuse me... ahem..... the next make that only makes perfect motorbikes without a single bad unit ever going through the production line.
From your own post: "Maybe one day Kawasaki will get it right but for now its not quite ready. "
I'm sure Kawasaki is anxiously taking notes from all your detractors above...
Bon voyage bud.

I have been a suzuki fan for a better part of 35 years, a couple years ago a lady pulled out in front of me, and totaled my mint busa , so I bought my first Kaw 2012 ZX14R, best bike I have ever ridden, that being said, the busa motor is PROVEN reliable, especially if you mod it,
to tell you the truth, I don't hear about that many of stock busa's blowing motors, they did have the cam chain tensioner recall in 1999 and fuel pump, but not much since then, to tell you the truth, I have heard of more blown stock ZX14R's than Busa's I do love my ZX14R, time will tell if it is reliable as all of my suzukis have been ....

If your just a regular rider than you be ok for many years to come just keep the oil at the top of the site glass. Yes when I first rode my 14 it was more comfortable and so smooth and was one of the best bikes I to had ridden also. I must admit thou the busa only felt bad to me after I rode the 14 so I would say it would be my second choice of nice bikes to ride.
I hear you on the busa motor is PROVEN reliable I have to many low maintenance and even no maintenance friends with busa's with 80k plus miles man you should see some of the stuff the neglect I just shake my head when I see it.

my experience after riding/owing both 14 and Busa is that they both had their pluses and minuses - however I did prefer the 14. That's just my preference. I never experienced any issues with either so that's just me.
That being said I also had a 1098 which I loved and I currently have a 10R. Also love that, though I do miss my '04 10R. I also miss my 12R and my Ducati 900SS.
I guess I just love motorcycles and riding in general.

I've had four Kaws and five suzuki's and one honda I must love bikes riding too.
Tell the truth most on this site probably would have a busa if the ZX14 did not exit.
Back in the day I wanted the zx1100 bad it was the king of the hill and looked awesome.

A little old now but my 06 turned 150k old a bit ago. She has 157k at the moment.
Still as strong as ever , no oil consumption and great fuel mileage still.
Tens of thousands of hard miles , drags , track days and plenty of 180+ runs that i still do pretty regular.
Sorry to hear about your zx14. Prolly built on a friday lol. But sometimes one can get a bad apple.
Not mine

I heard someone once refer to the booza's profile as looking like a "retarded whale penis", and I'll admit I've never actually SEEN a whale penis, but whenever someone posts a picture of the profile of their busa, I can really begin to comprehend what they mean.
lol, sorry, its just my opinion, I've just always thought that the 14 has an ACTUAL "sportbike" look compared to the Busa.
Again, just one man's probably dumb opinion, but my opinion nevertheless
Very nice lookin 14 Intimidator BTW.
