Tall people and their ZX14
Hi guys,
New member here just seeking a little advice if I could. I've recently joined the list of ZX14 riders having just purchased a 2007 in blue trim. It's a beautiful bike and comfy enough around town. However over the weekend I was invited on a rather lengthy cruise (about 500km) and the bike was doing well enough except beyond 120km/h the wind was really buffeting me around. So to combat it I attempted to scooch myself down onto the tank and lower my profile. Being 6"1 I found that my elbows were tucked onto my knees which seemed really awkward.
I was thinking that an option might be to lower the footrest pegs down a touch. I've had a cursory glance at the Corbin (?) set as well as some rearsets. I'm not sure that the riding position of the ZX14 would suit a rearset though and I don't want to spend an awful lot of money just to find I don't like the new position.
Does anyone else have this issue and how did you combat it? Anyone have pictures of lowered pegs on the ZX14? With pictures of a rider so I can gauge how the rider sits?
Cheers,
Cameron

I'm 6'3 and find that the 14 is one of the best fitting bikes for taller riders that's available.

Hmmmm... My knees are sitting up near the top of the tank and when I duck down to get out of the wind that puts my elbows over my knees. Either I'm doing something really wrong or others have done something to shift the peg positions. It's fine like I mentioned for about town crusies. But any time I want to give it some stick, and get out of the wind, it's unco.

I just purchased my ZX14 Special Edition 2008 model and also found the same issue you are having being 6'3". To fix the problem I bought a GTR1400 seat (which fits straight on after changing the brackets on the base), fitted 3/4" lowered legs and have a pair of HeliBars™ Tour Performance bars coming. The GTR seat is by far more comfortable and supports you when giving your bike full throddle and stops you from slipping back in the seat. After fitting the lowered pegs my suggestion is to relocate the gear changer and brake lever as they are a bit high after fitting lower pegs. I will let you know how the HeliBars™are as they are in transit. I have heard that the Corbin seats are good but need around 1000 km to brake in, don't quote me on that but I have been told that. I hope my suggestion's help and keep the rubber to the road.

This is actually an issue with has perplexed me for years. I suspect some of it may be a matter of inseam rather than just height, but alot of it has to how you sit. I bought my 12 back in '00 for exactly this same reason. Everything else I sat on (except a TLR) had my knees right up on the tank. But 15 years later I can jump on a Yamaha R6 and I'm perfectly comfy.
Either way, the 14 is gonna be about the most accommodating bike you are gonna find for a tall person. If you are having issues, either examine your body position habits, or you're a real edge case with some exceptionally out of normal dimensions.
Also, if you are coming off a touring bike history, realize the 14 is NOT a touring bike, so it isn't going to be faired to provide zero wind even sitting full upright, won't have the same seating position, etc. It is certainly far more relaxed than a typical full sport literbike or 600, but still it IS a sport bike.
