ZX14 Exhaust Mod - Going single sided
I got a great deal on a Muzzy M10 slip on but I got just the slip on only. I figured out how to mount it to the stock header and Ive capped off the other side to make it single sinded which I prefer. What I'm wondering is will I have too much back pressure capping off one side? Will removing the 2 tractor cans make up for capping off one side? Im wondering if I should gut the cat in the header (2009 model) to make up for going single sided? It runs fine but I dont want to hurt the engine.

my advice...buy the header thats meant for the can. they engineered it that way for a reason. my .02 though

sure if money grew on trees - you cant just buy the header - have to buy the whole system for a grand

check classified...ebay..etc. i know for a fact theres a used m10 system on ebay right now for $400...ive NEVER paid full price for an exhaust..

also check psychobike or any other forums...members are usually easy to deal with. You can also haggle with sellers on ebay..send a message and offer a fair price. most of the time they will accept it

thanks but I already have a new slip on - the one on ebay has a damaged header - I'd like to just make what I have work. It looks great. Cant seem to find anything online in forums that anwers my questions which seems strange sine they sell kits on ebay which block off on side of the dual exhaust and lots of people have bought them. Plus if I go straight through now I have to buy a powercommander - I'm happy with the power - i'll worry about that down the road - just wondering if im ok now.

You'll be fine. We made some of those kits back in '06- 07 (and '08 - 11). Basically a right side slip-on with block-off cap for the left side outlet at the collector. It was an economical way to get the "look" of a 4-1 type exhaust at the time. But honestly it did nothing to increase power (for sake of argument), other than possibly the weight difference.

I thought a lot about the block out idea also back in 07 but with the compromises of a stock head pipe it ultimately didn't make sense. You will make some noise and loose some weight but if you study the power curves of compared systems your efforts don't make sense. One thing that always stuck with me when I got my new 750 turbo back when is the difference between getting what you really want or what you think you have to settle for. You will like the one you really want every time you see it and it motivates and inspires you.

We actually first started doing this back in the 70's in Superbike Racing. When you had to run "stock appearing" pipes, and the KZ1000 came with duals instead of fours, we essentially made a full race 4-1, that had a "dummy" pipe/spigot out the left side of the collector. We then ran a full "normal" looking muffler out the left side. But it happened to not actually function.....  If you put your hand up to it, not a breath of exhaust came out it. But since it passed the "must look like" rule, it was basically legal.
