Extensions and chain question.

I've done some searching on here regarding this topic, but would like some specific input.

I about to get into the dragging the 14. I will be riding 90% on the street with week end drag strip duty. 08/SE with Muzzy M14, PC w/Muzzy map, lowered about 1.5 inch inch drop front and rear. I'm ordering some roaring toys 3"-7" in extensions. How far should I extend, what gearing and chain should I run to still have a bike that will still turn decent? I would like to keep the stock front sprocket if possible. Thanks in advance for the advise

I have a 08 with the same extensions,
As for how long, I'd recommend cutting the chain so that the axle is in the middle of the adjustment range. I run one down and 2 up and any good name brand chain will be fine as long as it has a rivit master link, clip links are not worth the risk.
Usoft rear tire, you will want to re spring and re valve the rear shock or it will blow through its stroke and damage your undertail and damage your ecu harness. If you lower the bike get a lowered kickstand.
My bike turns just fine, I won't be winning any road races, but its a fair trade when the lights go green and you rocket away.

Before even riding the bike down the road with the extensions. I found out the hard way when we first got the 14.

Cut oil pan meaning with the drain plug relocated or something else? I'll never use a clip link chain again. Had one come apart on me with my old ZZR1200, lived to tell thank God! Bike is already lowered 1.5in front rear for about 3months now and have an adjustable stand. When stretching the bike rides even lower? Or does the extended swing arm cause more sag in the shock? I got an OEM 16t sprocket and I think I'm going to go 43 in the rear. I run a 55 series rear tire. Thanks for the replies!

Oh and I weigh 225, but I'm on a diet, dropped 25 down from 250. Looking to lose another 30, I'm 6'1.

I would think cutting the tab and using a low profile Allen bolt would be fine. I have a osr cut pan on mine, but its overkill (the pan is higher than the m14 head pipe. Extensions will make getting over speed bumps tricky, but I've been doing it for 20k miles. Your biggest problem will be not burning a hole in the undertail and trashing the cdi/ecu wireing harness. I use the screw type links, I removed the spring, fully compressed the swingarm and adjusted the links so that the tire stopped before hitting the undertail. Its lower than stock, but not slammed. 55 it taller right? If so you may want a shorter tire to keep from burning a hole in the under tail after extension.

Yes 55 is taller. Does the tire rub during normal riding or during aggressive launches? Dips in the road?

With my setup (rear shock re valved and re sprung) it will just kiss the undertail during hard launches, and also acts as a warning that the chick I picked up at the last bar is heavier than I thought.
