zx14 newbie

hey guys, new to the forum and the zx14.
the zx14 is my 3rd bike (01 cbr929rr, 2007 gsxr750)
been riding for a few years now but just recently started drag racing on the strip and having some street roll ons.

Sooooo my question is on the strip I have ran about avg. times for my skill level and bike, I have beat a couple of 1000's and a busa on the strip, but the other day on a ride , me and a few buddies took an empty toll road and had alil fun. One of the guys running a cbr600rr with an full exhaust and pcv wanted to run against my zx14 for shits and giggles, Im assuming we both gunned it in 2nd gear, at about 60 mph and it kinda surprised me to see him have such a quick jump from the start, of course i caught him in no time but his take off was way faster then what I was getting. He probably got a bike length away before i passed him. We rolled on 3 times and he got me on 2 of them. I caught some flack from my buddies from getting my ass handed to me and I spent the rest of the ride wondering wtf?

If you guys don't mind could y'all help a newb out and provide some Intel on this like what I could of been screwing up or how he could of pulled it off. obviously his skill set was better, so spare me the " cause you suck" reply

It would probably help that Iam about 215 lbs and had a full tank of gas at the time and this guy was about 150 lbs.
All advice is much appreciated.

What do you mean "got you on two of them"? Just flat outran you? 2nd gear roll shouldn't even be close unless he has spray or you cant ride to the full potential of the bike. Some people are scared to go WOT in 2nd gear on the 14. I've ridden a 600rr for an extended period and I can tell you the power is not even close to the 14's. Maybe he is geared and got the jump that way.

Well, you got to think what are you doing wrong? Are you gradually going through the rpm range or hammering it? Maybe you just need a little more riding time with the zx14. There is no way a 600 is going to jump you or walk away. Is the bike having any kind of trouble?

You must have hit the throttle long after he did. Or didn't go WOT immediately off the hit. Or you've got a plug wire off.

Torque to weight ratio is not even close even at your body weight. I bet he hammers it an you "roll" it on. Your ratio including body weight is 6.66 :1. His is 12:1.
