Rear Shock Adjustment After Stretch / Lowering
In the process of stretching my 06 7" and lowering it 2". I'm a slender athletic 260 pounds. I've been told that the rear shock needs to be rebuilt and a new spring installed. I've also been told that adjustments can be made to the factory shock to accommodate. Now then, my 06 only has 5k miles, I've had it since new, and I only ride the occasional weekend or maybe a bike night or two if that makes a difference. (In case somebody ask "what type of riding do you do?"). Could I please get the opinions of the experts?

If your only riding to bike night and back, performance doesn't really sound like muh of a issue to you.
As far as the stock shock, you need to tighten the spring all the way (two big nuts on top of spring)
And there is a screw at the top of the shock and bottom. Turn both screws all the way in (clockwise) and back out 1/4 turn. That's all you can do for the stock shock.
A revolved shock/aftermarket shock is necessary to get the performance level back up out of your suspension.

Thanks for the response eklipse636. I assume this may cause a rough as hell ride but will help keep me from bottoming out over the slightest bumps, correct? This is just a temporary fix until I can upgrade my suspension. As far as the upgrades for the rear shock, what method is recommended there? Keep in mind this bike might see the drag strip twice a year....just for fun.

No, it will not cause a "rough" ride. It will make the bike more firm/stable, and keep it planted to the ground better.
If your going to see the drag strip a few times a year, I wouldn't set it up for the drag strip. Just not worth it.
Your options are going to start with the cheapest of re valving the stock shock. (Litz, BMC, Adams performance are a few that revalve) or you can buy a aftermarket shock like one Brock's sells made by Ohlins.
Just depends on how much you want to spend.
