2013 ZX-14r.. now the most useless thing I own

Seriously.. where can I ride it? I thought the 2007 14, and really, all my other bikes, were about useless.. well.. this one takes the lead as the most useless bike I have ever ridden. I crack the throttle 10% and I am doing speeds high enough to land right in jail. I love this bike.. seems like a world class machine.. just not really designed for this world is it? Any place on Earth where you really ride this thing? I mean, I'll take it to the strip.. and that's fine for a few seconds, sure... but I mean really ride this thing? Useless I tell you.. absolutely useless.

Great for street racing, and chasing down Corvettes, Porsches, etc. on the freeways! Least not, ripping Busa's for fun.... :-) and liter bikes..

Stop thinking of how fast it is and start thinking how nice it is to be riding it! You just need a different perspective. With my 12r i would ride looking to race anything that got next to me. With the 14r im usually out just enjoying the ride because there isn't much that stands a chance on the street. Don't get me wrong, i get on good streach of road i let it lose, just have nothing to prove with the 14r. Basically anything 600cc and larger will get you jail time or a bus pass for several years if you think about it.

True enough...but it's also a highly refined bike that's a pleasure to ride whether at 80...or 180.

Riding the 14R takes quite a bit of self control.... Well except on Ocean Parkway where you can hit warp factor 5. Yes it can be looked at as useless, but then again if its something you enjoy.... Enjoy it.

MotoCycho:

Like Seno said, you just have to tweak your mindset and right wrist accordingly. I live in Florida, in the city no less and my 14R is my sole mode of transport. In town I am often rolling past traffic...coasting because the torque is so strong that a brief burst or the power for a gear or two is all that is needed. The 14R is stupid fun so long as you just keep telling yourself...ok that's....enough when you twist it open in whatever road situation.

For sure, the 14R is much more at home anywhere you can stretch its...legs, but it's more versatile than you might think at first. Best thing I ever did to really....appreciate all it can do well was take a 1,000+ mile road trip a couple months after I got mine. Get away from traffic congestion and you'll see it's not..useless, a couple counties from home. This bike....lives for the open road of whatever kind you prefer, straight or twisty, it does both..really well.

That said, it's also fun sometimes to zap down to the bank in...5 minutes to make a deposit or whatever and then....cruise home. All you expressed in your post is why I most often... head for the rural areas and remote country roads when I head out which is easy to do down here.

Enjoy it bro.

It's no different then owning an M5 or similar performance car, you can't ride/drive fast on the street, it's 2013 and it's over. We can't even wind up our cruisers which I wanted to do this AM when I was out riding with my wife......That said, It sure feels good just knowing I've got a 14R - before they're gone forever as a result of our insurance regulators and/or the powers that govern our lifes - even if it just sits outside my house on a Saturday afternoon.......with me staring at it!!!!!!!

P.S. - When you've got this much power, you don't need to use it.

I look at riding the 14 as a release. Its a release from the daily grind of life. Its my time alone with no one bothering me or talking to me. Just the sound of my music or the Brocks CT Meg in my ear. Yes insurance is ridiculous for the bike but I knew that going into it. Yes, you must control yourself because it will get you in trouble. I look at the power of the 14 as a way to get me out of trouble if I am lucky enough to notice it coming. It just turned 4700 miles today and I have loved every mile of it. Get out and ride.....safe.

I bought my 14R new last summer, spent the season pit-crewing for a friend and only rode it on the roads for about 700 miles, hardly got it off tick-over. I spent the winter and early spring this year planning and modifying it and finally took it to its first LSR meeting for the standing-start mile in April. Slowest run was 199.8 and the other eight were all over 200.

I find that these meetings, even if I only make it to three or four each year, are enough to get it out of my system. It leaves me content to ride sensibly and (mostly) within the law on the roads. Nothing left to prove.

I'm a brand new ZX-14R owner, having previously owned a ZX-10R. Just about any speed bike is the same story...designed to go 150mph in a world with 65mph speed limits. That said, of all the bikes that have this problem it's probably most pronounced in the big bore sport bikes.

To fix this problem, I'm considering road tripping to do a standing mile event.

*late edit* I just noticed BobC just said the same thing lol.

Careful, Southpaw...those LSR events are addictive. Great group of people though.

I have to say the same about my 14R....luckily, the speed limits over here are a bit higher than in the US. One drawback is the damn Speedhumps...they are Everywhere.
