My dyno numbers and question about how many BST wheel weights is too much!!!
I finally got the BST wheels and Power one race spec tires on my bike along with wave rotors and new sprocket kit. I was told by Brocks that I should be able to balance those wheels with no more than 2 weights on each wheel (1/4 oz. each weight). My new wheels have 4 on the rear and 3 1/2 on the front. The shop swears that that is really good (very light) and normal. They used the balance dots from the factory to line up the tires and wheels and there is nothing to worry about. I figure that for $3500.00 to get all the weight off of the outside rim, it is counter productive to put it back on..... Am I being to picky?????? How many weights do you guys with BST's have??
On another topic, I have CT megaphone full exhaust, PCV, Guhl's ECU mod, using Mobil 1 4t 10W-40 full synthetic and my bike dynoed' at 198.6 hp and 116 lb tq. I am at 2,680 ft elevation and it was about 83 degrees. Are these good numbers???? Most dyno numbers for stock that I have seen have been around 191-201 and 210 for the Brocks setup. Am I low or is it the elevation that is robbing my power??? I thought I would be at least over 200 RWHP........
Thanks!

I'm been putting tires on years from out my garage and I've never had to put weights once i align the word DOT with the valve stem. I did that with my Carrozzeria wheels and my friends BST wheels and no problems, high or low speeds, track or street.
street. Now far as your dyno numbers thats pretty impressive... is that the 14R? Alot people go dyno numbers but a dyno is mainly to adjust/correct your air/fuel ratio

Bighicks2980, so aligning the word DOT with the valve stem is an installers "trick"? I have never heard that before, very interesting.

actually its the yeller DOT .. Everybody but Michelin's their tires are claimed perfect balanced from factory no matter how you mount it.. but they always seem to need the most weight added

yeah i was taught that way several years ago by a good friend of mine thats great friends with Ricky Gadsen and sometimes works on his bikes from time to time and i've been running every since, Dunlop, Michelin, Metzler, Shinko, etc.. i've used that same method with each one. If you go by yellow DOT 9 times out 10 you will be taking it to a shop to get it balanced. But to each is their own....

their right .. i guess the people that made the engine don't know shit either ..
quote: JASO
The Japanese Automotive Standards Organization (JASO) has created their own set of performance and quality standards for petrol engines of Japanese origin.
For four-stroke gasoline engines, the JASO T904 standard is used, and is particularly relevant to motorcycle engines. The JASO T904-MA and MA2 standards are designed to distinguish oils that are approved for wet clutch use, and the JASO T904-MB standard is not suitable for wet clutch use.
For two-stroke gasoline engines, the JASO M345 (FA, FB, FC) standard is used, and this refers particularly to low ash, lubricity, detergency, low smoke and exhaust blocking.
These standards, especially JASO-MA (for motorcycles) and JASO-FC, are designed to address oil-requirement issues not addressed by the API service categories. One element of the JASO-MA standard is a friction test designed to determine suitability for wet clutch usage.[18][9] An oil that meets JASO-MA is considered appropriate for wet clutch operations. Oils marketed as motorcycle-specific will carry the JASO-MA label.

I guess I should add that I have the 2012 model. I think for my altitude with stock air filter (which I believe is over-oiled from the factory) and 10-40 oil, pump 89 Shell, I'm right where I should be. Wheel weights are actually 2 1/2 quarter ounce wheel weights in front and three in the rear. I guess that's fine. I'll figure it out when I get to Bonneville........

I have been mounting my own tires for some time now, rarely will the tire be balanced by just lining up the dot with the stem.
I usually balance the rim to get the heavy spot, mount the tire meeting the dot to the heavy spot and rebalance. Sometimes it work but most times I end up rotating the time a little to get a better balance, less weight.

The colored dots on the tires mean nothing as far as balance goes. Whats to say that the rim is perfectly balanced to begin with? Anything up to about 30grams of weight per wheel is OK IMO. But when you put on your fancy dice valve cap-the balance is off again. J/K
