single vs. double front brake on ZX-14

I actually tried the dual to single rotor conversion on my ZX-14 and it seems like that weighmastr guy was right. I can lock up the front tire easily at low speeds and braking is good at higher speeds, that is, I don't feel much difference. What I do notice is the bike looks cleaner and it seems to have saved a significant amount of weight although I am not sure how much. I read through the posts and a lot of people attacked this guy but what he was saying seemed to make sense to me so I gave it a try. Luckily I have a friend that is a motorcycle mechanic and he was able to help me and save me some money. It does require a little more lever effort but that is no problem and was expected. I think it works well and is a cool, cost effective mod.

Not a good idea zxrider. The 14 makes short work of the rotor when only using one. Heat build up is critical if you ride fairly hard, fast most the time. I have no dog in this fight but these guys tried to warn weighmaster about things to be careful about on one rotor but he wouldn't hear it. Ill bet your rotor is already bluing heavily, just keep and eye on it............

no problems yet but okay I'll keep an eye on it there Mr. bill. It was pretty cool I was able to lock up the front wheel. I am not sure what pads are on there but they seem to work well. I don't ride hard so heat build up for me may not be an issue. I like the looks too. I've seen some guys do this on Busas so that motivated me some to try it.

It looks good but the bike just with one rotor doesn't stop where I'm comfortable. But I see people running them all the time.

define "their job"? New guy has a clean and unique IP addy and has nothing that ties him to weightmaster other than this topic. For all intents and purposes its a different person altogether.

So - the only REAL way is to have him post photos of his single brake conversion job... no pix ? then i'll have no prob punting him.

Not in the least. Let's just say there is a pattern. Also, didn't know WFL got the bid.

Why do I need to post pics? I did the mod and it worked fine. As I test it more I will report back any problems but so far there are none. I am not sure why some people say this mod causes you to lose half your braking power because I don't feel any loss. This is not speculation, this is based on actual results. I can get the bike rolling 20 MPH in a parking lot or somewhere safe with my feet dragging and squeeze the front brake only (with the single rotor) and I can lock up the front wheel if I squeeze hard enough. Explain to me how a 2nd rotor is going to give me more stopping power if I can already lock it up with one. I am not worried about repeated hard braking because that never happens on the street which is where I ride.
