The point is that a modified bike, like the 2007 model we're discussing here, can get off the line using fewer revs without the engine bogging down. Smooth progressive power is easier to control and kinder to the clutch and transmission. Remember that people who sprint lightly modified stock wheelbase bikes have to develop a technique with minimum wheelspin and minimum wheelying to be fast over the quarter.

It's also a whole lot nicer as a daily ride at sensible speeds. There's nothing worse than being lent over on the apex of a bend, picking the bike up on the throttle and having the engine fall into a flat-spot. Something a lot of bikes set up by the manufacturer to pass emissions and noise control regulations tend to do.

I've just seen on the news the North East of the United States has really bad snow. I hope everyone's ok over there.
