yep i idid it exactly as the instructions said and the color was waaay off;! i did this to my last zx14 and it looked like it came from the factory like that, it was perfect, everyone thought it was factory and couldnt believe i did it with a rattle can spray paint, but it was a one part paint so i think that was the difference it was very easy, oh well im starten to like the black. . i guess

im not saying it cant be done i just couldnt get it to match, maybe you would fhave better luck, would be different if it was like 20 bucks but 80 and 30 for clearcoat! also im no pro at painting but on my last bike it was a piece of cake and matched perfect , just too expensive to keep experimenting ,

I have a shop that does all my Harley work that also custom paints. Mike told me he has had better results having his Dupont paint supplier scan the existing paint and matching it. He thinks the cost of ColorRite paint is ridiculous.

Thanks for all the reply's and sharing your personal experience trying to match the candy surf blue. I have a small scrape (3/16 X 1 inch) on the left fairing above the gill insert caused by a hold down strap mishap. I think mike can professionally match and repair this small defect for not much more than the high cost of the ColorRite paint kits.

I had my body shop use the colorite paint for my 2012 ZX14R SE green and the color matched perfectly although the metalflake was a little weaker but my fault I didn't leave him a panel to try to match as they suggest.
