Getting to the track etc Class C towing?
Weighing my options... last year I picked up a small 1/2 ton towable toy hauler with the thinking I'd be able to do some camping, hit the track and bring some toys along. Turns out the size limits the use, and I'm too lazy to unload and reload bikes and gear at every stop.
Now I'm eyeing used Class C motorhomes... I see that most all V10 Ford chassis units can tow 5000lbs, and they're all going for cheap. I already own an open trailer to take bikes in, as well as a hitch mounted sportbike carrier if I need to take only one bike.
Anyone here towing an open or enclosed trailer behind a class c to get around?
Looks like it might be the best combination of living quarters as well as towing capacity for the price.
Experiences?

Fish........I delivered many of those Ford chassis Class C's with the V10 to dealer's across the country and Canada. I towed a Jeep Grand Cherokee ( 02 ) behind them and never got more than 7-8 mpg. These were all brand new from manufacture's and they may get a little better milage after they are broke in. I would think this through carefully before making a decision and do some calculation's for fuel cost's on a few trip's you might take first.
I delivered all manor of motorhomes and all the Class A's got better milage than the V-10 Ford's. I also deliverd new Volvo, Peterbllt, Frieghtliner and Kenworth tractor's and every one of them got better milage pulling the Cherokee behind.
An idea might be to rent one for a weekend and see what you think first.......

I should HOPE the diesels got better mileage. I typically saw reports of 6 to 9mpg with diesels, but we're talking full 40ft+ buses, often pulling an SUV to boot. And generally at 10 over on an interstate.

Sorry if I was not clear........24 to30 something foot Itasca's (V10) compared to 40+ foot Class A's. Always pulling my SUV. Lots of great deals on RV's out there.

cant afford or justify a diesel, though I would love one. Gas class c (and A) are being given away right now...
plus I can just maybe squeeze a 29' in my driveway....
is there a length limit on state parks in California?

Did the deal - my toy hauler's gone, I took a deposit on it today. Picking up a used class c 28' with a f450 v10. Should fit the bill nicely - now I can hook up my bike trailer to the back of it and away I go! Even had a rear view camera so I can watch the bikes fall out of the trailer and onto the interstate
Also now able to tie steering wheel to base of seat, get up, make popcorn in the microwave as well as take a shit or a shower - all at 70 mph

Should I use a rope or a bungee cord to hold the steering wheel in place?

Stick the dog up front and let him drive while you lounge in the back with a cool beer.
