You knew one day I'd return
Good Day All,
Well I may soon be returning w/bike. A quick explanation: In Aug 2007 my job that was 85 miles from home was taking a toll on my pocketbook, and I traded my 2006 ZX-14 w 28K (38 MPG) for a 06 VFR800 (50 MPG) with 100 miles on it. I missed the ZX but the VFR pretty much fit the bill for my heavy riding of 47K a year.
Well here we are in 2013 and my brother offered to buy my VFR and so I started looking at all the current crop of bikes and I just don't see anything out there that is similar too my VFR except the ZX-14. The current VFR I like a lot I just can't justify the cost.
So where do I go from here, well I love the new ZX-14 problem is I have a hard time justifying 300 a month for 4 years. 3 years is a little more reasonable so I have found several possibilities.
1. Is a 2008 ZX-14 $8500 - in Purple Black
2 Is a 2009 ZX-14 $9495 - SE Monster Edition W/warranty
3 Is a 2011 Busa $8500 - all Black (15K)
and a crap shoot
4 Is a 2009 Concours w/ABS $5495 (37K)
Keep in mind that I keep my bikes pretty well stock and although I drive a lot I don't really drive hard, but I still pull close to 20K a year so I will ride a lot of value out of a new bike so a low mile used bike really works well for me.

Kofla,
I'm a bit old school, I like integrated turn signals, a center stand and if possible a hydraulic clutch, and the ZX and VFR both fill that bill. To this day I don't think I've ever ridden a smoother motorcycle than the ZX-14. Getting off the 14 and on the VFR made the VFR feel like a much cheaper motorcycle. The ZX is solid and very very smooth....Yea a bit quicker as well.

Joel,
I think your right but I was going to offer what KBB suggests provided the bikes are as nice as the pics suggest. About $1000-$1200 off asking price.

Hello All,
Well I got very close to being a new owner the ZX-14 but it was not to be. I went to look at the 2009 ZX-14 with 1400 miles on it today and we were 112 dollars off. They were not budging on the price Just shy of 10K. Maybe using KBB is not a perfect but I think it's a good ball park measurement. KBB says 8050 for this ZX-14 adding 500 for the extended Warranty (3 years). Low miles has a premium but am I off, thinking that a 4 year old bike should be priced less then the nearly 10K asking price. Any advice is appreciated.

Keep looking, soon You'll find a better deal. I paid a LOT less, and mine is a 2010 with only 772 miles on the odometer when I bought it last summer.

Welcome back .. if it were me i'd get a C14 .. Steve has tons and tons of miles on his with nothing but tires and oil changes .. Great bike ...

Check out my 14 listed up for sale in the classifieds. A ZX-14 with LSL bar kit, Sgt seat and lots of other goodies. Can take off any extras and put back to stock to get price down to suit your needs.
And no, the new 14 is not any better for the general street rider....at the drag strip, that is a different story. You can't use what the original 14 has on the street. This crowd won't agree though.

Smokin How are you doing, forgive me I've been gone while are you doing OK?
I think of you often when some biker tells me he's all that. I just sit back and say nothing, but in the back of my mind I'd love to watch you put him away. Maybe one day.
I did run down to look at the C14 but as I expected it was gone. I was working on a 2009 but we were off by 112 dollars. I know sometimes I can be stubborn but it was the principle. He made an offer of X and I offered X (-500) then X (-250) then X and it became X (+112). Never fall in love with a machine (at least) until it is yours.

Well that may be your opinion but what does that have to do with getting a good deal on a good used bike? If I am such an "idiot", then he should be able to get a super deal on one of my bikes.
Maybe he thinks I am too smart and is looking for an easier "target".

How important is having a zx14 vs something close? If you have to have a zx14 than nothing else will do but if all you want is to get back on a confortable 14 without breaking the bank go with the C14. There is nothing like heading out for a ride and not worring about the cost of the trip because you are making payments. C14's cost much less and I believe can be found in larger numbers. Just about everyone that owns a zx14 wants top dollar (not that that is a bad thing) but paying 80% of new bike price for a used bike just doesn't seem right to me. The C14 is a very capable bike, costs less, earlier models have ABS already, gets better milage, less insurance cost, probably less maintenance (not sure on this one), and every bit as enjoyable as the zx14. If you have the cash in your pocket or you race the 1/4 mile buy the zx14 if NOT and you have pay top dollar go for the C14. Just my 2cents

Why do you say that? Because I am the "king" of slip ons and you are worried your Brocks sales will decline? A motorcycle buddy of mine told me the ZX-14s don't run well with those Brocks pipes. My idea seems reasonable and very cost effective. Plug up one side and use a less restrictive slip on can on the other side. What simplicity and variety. One day I can have SS and the next day CF. Fun stuff. Plenty of power for the street.
