missed shift

hi this is my 1st post, my 08 zx14 does not shift to 2nd or 3rd sometimes with air shift. it started missing after replacing full trans, shift drum forks and shift star. I am thinking shift star since it doesnt jump out of gear, works fine with normal driving, any ideas? thanks.

Have you tried adding more kill time.

Hey goats- I have the same year bike you do and had the exact same problem. More kill time won't fix it.

Check the length of the air shift shaft on the ram. Adjust it to give it maximum length to shift. Here check out the thread I made about this same issue-

http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=27&TID=68795

After I making that adjustment, I haven't missed a shift since. When it magically starts working again, you can thank Lee (smokinzx14) for the fix.

Mike

Yeah I know man, it's frustrating when you have the other guy beat on the tree and see him drive right by you because the bike didn't shift into 3rd. The fix I did solved everything and haven't had an issue since.

It wasn't a "fix" you put the part on incorrectly causing you to miss shifts...

hey mike finally read the old thread on missed shifts, very interesting.I will get a trans undercut ,since it is mostly a race only bike. This supposed to be an easy to race stressfree, low maintance fun race bike. so far not the case, due to all the experinenting, test&tune. but should be easier next season. it is still a fun ride . thanks for reply.

Right on Speedy. I believe Lee has some buddies at MRE and they said the stock tranny is pretty stout.

And Art, He'd make you a cockroach.
