2012 LCD digital dash fading to blank screen!!!
Anyone have this problem???
I started the bike this morning and there was a delay in the LCD dashboard starting up (not to be confused with the Dynojet LCD 200). This is the main bike dash panel. I was parked at Starbucks for a couple of hourse and went to start the bike. The dash LCD was a bit faded. As I rode out of the parking lot, the fading got worse until it was almost completely blank. Eventually after about 5 minutes of riding, it started to come back to normal contrast. I may have had the dashboard sitting angled into the direct sunlight the whole time. I live in Tucson, Arizona and even now it is 80 degrees outside and the Sun is pretty intense.
I did read from a site that someone else had that problem, thought it could be a hot LCD and just needed to have it cool down a bit. I don't know, but I think that sounds strange. The bike should still be under warranty and I don't want to wait too long to see if it will happen again.
Any ideas????

take it back to the dealer and let them know the problem

+1 Definately have a record of the problem with the stealership while you are still under warranty..

I called the dealership service department and the said that they have seen this happen a few times on the Concourse but not the 14's. They said that if you have the dash in direct sunlight for a while (over an hour or so) the dash lcd will fade for a while after you start the bike until the temps go down on the screen then come back to normal. They don't know why it happens, but they said it's normal and not an issue with the bike.
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM............... Sounds fishy, but I read on other forums that this happens...... I'm calling Kawasaki....

This happened to a good friend of mine on an '06 ZX14. The difference in his and what the dealership told you was that his is permanently screwed up. Parts of the display have never returned. The cause was also the same, direct sunlight. A new cluster is about $1000.00

i had this same thing happen on my 2006 zx14.. if you take the gauge off the bike and split the black plastic housing you will find a circuit board theres a ribbon cable at the top of the board that i unplugged and plugged back in never happened again

I've had 4 zx 14s and none ever did this even after sitting out at work for 10 hours on 100 degree days in the sun. tell your dealer to replace the damn dash. so if your doing 600 miles in a day in the sun you should expect your dash to go out, I don't think so.

These types of LCD displays (clocks etc), can 'overheat' in the sun light. The fault discribed is consistant with overheating.
It's part of how they are made. There is a touch conectivity pad to the actual cyrstals.
Normaly as they cool down they do tend to correct themselves.
Could just be very minor connection issues.
However, if it is doing it even after cooling down it should be replaced.
Just means the conductivity to the glass cannot go back to what it should.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to ride it tomorrow and simulate the exact conditions as when it happened. Believe me, here in Tucson, the weather never changes!!! It's still sunny and 80 degrees............ I'll try to replicate it. It hasn't happened since then, but I havn't been on the bike much..... It gives me another excuse the sit in Starbucks for another 2 hours!!!

Had the same thing happen to mine after 2 hours in the direct sun, dash came back to normal after I moved the bike and the dash cooled off.
