200mph Goal Attained

I installed my ECU into my 14R after Guhl flashed it with 500 extra rpm and took it out and it ran exactly 200mph on the GPS. My only mods are the flashed ECU and a Brocks full system short meg 2012 exhaust. I probably could have gone slightly faster as after the run I saw the rear tire was ready for replacement so the diameter had shrunk somewhat. I've been chasing the elusive 200 for some time. I had previously hit 194 with my old 06 ZX14 and never had a real chance to get to 200. I'm happy now but may do some gearing changes just for grins to see what it will pull. I was right at redline with an indicated 11,700rpm which we all know is not the actual rpm. This was done with mirrors on and stock shield.

Congratulations on your 200mph.

With stock 17/42 gearing: the actual revs at 200 are 10,950 and with the extra 500rpm the bike should do 206.6mph.
This doesn't allow for any slippage.

Bring it to one of the mile events, Texas, Wilmington or Mojave (a bit far), so you can get the shirt and make it official.

Are you guys saying a 14R (guhl flashed ecu, brocks pipe) with stock gearing will run 200mph, we ran our 14R with 1 down at the back with same mods as you with mirrors up to 326 km/h( 203mph) hitting rev limitter within 2200m. I thought with stock gearing you should run 316km/h with standard tyre.

I was not limiting myself to distance and was simply watching the gps. After it hit 200mph it actually went down to 199mph. Guhl said I was probably hitting the soft limiter that begins to take fuel out shutting off a cylinder before hitting the hard limiter. This was with a worn tire with a 76.38 circumference as measured after the run. With a new tire at 77.78 as just measured, the gear calculator gives 205.3 as the top speed. Again, I think at these speeds you will always hit the soft limiter first so actual speed will be slightly less than your hard limiter rpm.

If the +500 rpm of the reflashed ECU lets the 14R rev to 11,300rpm it will do 206.6mph (332.5km/h) on stock 17/42 gearing.

If your bike hit the rev-limiter at 203mph it was possibly because of slippage ?? (203mph using your 17/41 gearing is 10850rpm)

The stock bike, if it was not top speed limited, should hit the engine rev-limiter at 197.5mph (317.8km/h), otherwise it will speed limit at 186mph (300km/h) which is around 10,200rpm. Slippage, either at the wheel or clutch, can affect these results.

BobC, I think you nailed it with the comment "IF the + 500 rpm will let the bike rev to 11,300rpm" From what I'm learning there are variances in every ecu that could affect "actual" rpm by as much as 200rpm, so unless we can datalog the actual rpm for a given bike we can only come close to knowing what the bike is pulling, which will result in different bikes with the exact same flash having different actual rev limits. This info was provided to me by Don Guhl

If I'm not mistaken that particular GPS starts rounding at speeds over 100 mph.

Are you able to capture the speeds to the tenths?

If not it could be as low as 199.5 or as high as 200.4

Thanks for the input guys, just a stupid question if my clutch is slipping , why will it only be slipping in 6th gear on top end, the rider can not pick up that the clutch is slipping in any of the gears. What should the top speed be with 17/41 gearing @ 11,300rpm ?

In 6th gear it's more likely to be loss of traction causing any slippage when the bike is near top speed.
11,300rpm using 17/41 would be 211.7mph with no slippage.
