quote: Please forgive me if this question or observation is way off base. I thought our 14r actually redlined at 10600-10700 rpm even though the tach is showing 11k. Is that right or wrong? If its correct the 500 bump in rev limit still puts that at 11200??
Is this the same problem you were having with the Cycle-Tech auto shifter?
Rev limiter is set a true 11000 from the Factory .. That was what Guhl told me the factory ECU was coded at ... He resets it to a true 11500..
The gen one was the same true 11000 from the factory ... But the tach on the gen one and gen two would read 11200 on the factory tach.. The tach is off , so you can't go by that reading ..
The Cycle tech didn't ever work for me .. Never even made a pass down the strip with it because testing on the street it would only shift under 3000 RPMs, above 3k in didn't kill or shift .. Everytime you hit the buttom it set off all the dash lights including the EFI light and turn signals ..

I set my 06 to auto shift with the PCIII & Mulit-hub and its been working great for the last 4 years, the PCV already has the functions built in so you might try that if you don't want to get another MPS box.

Good run Lee, sorry to hear about your air shifter, some history I've had with the MPS box, I think they use a diode own each kill wire, what would happen is one of the diodes would go out, Not killing one cylinder, if just one cylinder keeps running, It won't shift. I'm not sure that's the problem but MPS has always replace the box free. We use a SB6 with a smaller kill box that MPS makes, the SB6 is more adjustable on-kill time, and will not backfire between shifts even with nitrous, I think the two biggest things that would help your bike now is a longer swing arm, and MR 12 good luck.

After taking the hole shifter setup apart again i think i might have found a problem .. If you guys remember this started off as a ( Blank blank ) air shifter kit .. I had so many problems with it i ended up changing everything out to another brand of shifter ...I changed everything but the air shifter ram ..The ram was kind of sticking when i got it , but i lubed it and it seemed to be ok, not as smooth as other rams i have used but i felt it would free up a bit more with use .. I lube it evertime before i go to the track .
So today i removed it just to check it , it's still not smooth moving it in and out .. In fact every 3 or 4 times i move it in and out it sticks and becomes very hard to move .. Now i'm not 100% sure this is all my air shifter problems but this sure can't help either .. What i'm thinging is it's sticking in the up stroke after my 1 to 2 shift and not returning the lever in time for the next shift , so when it goes to 3 rd gear it's still stuck in the upper part of the stroke ... No way will it shift 3 gear that way because it has not released the lever from the 1- 2 shift ..
If this is the problem or part of the problem, shame on me for not tossing it in the trash with the other parts i had changed out ..
Anyway i'm going to get a new ram from grainer and i'll double check it before i buy it and make sure the stroke is nice and smooth and free .. This is a 3 inch stroke ram unlike other kits that use a 2 inch stroke ram ... Any one have the part number for a grainer 3 inch stroke ram? Grainer offers a few different 3 inch rams , i'm not sure what one i need ?

5ZEE4 is what I bought last time from Grainger.
It is a 2 inch stroke, but that's enough if it is adjusted correctly.

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

First ram I bought from Grainger was rough and tight, I took it back before ever installing it, worth a try for the fix.

You shift at ? 11200 shift pill is what i'm using ..
If your getting in the rev limiter it's not going to shift. I'd drop your pill down a little and try that. I'm not using an auto shifter but had my shift light set to high and was doing the same thing.
MY ECU is reflashed an extra 500 rpms .. I don't get close to that ..My bike runs the best shifting at 11200 Rev limiter is set at 11500.. I tried a 10900 chip and still does it .. But 10900 slows me way down .. Remember i'm working with a ZX14R not a Gen 1
I was referring to the 14R mine is flashed also...my gen 1 is the same way if i'm in the rev limiter it won't shift. Do they spray pasted the 1/8? The tire might be spinning. You can drop your tire pressure down to 10 psi, just to test it....?

Lee, you've been my hero on the ZX14 forever...this time's no different. Each time I read about your records, it brings a big smile to my face. You really do this bike serious justice. There are few, if any that can hit the times you do. Congratulations my friend!

The track was the best i have seen in a long time and it was hooking front to back .. Funny thing was our other track has no prep and was spinning everywhere and it was shifting just fine .. strange ....

Thanks Lucky .. Looks like 5ZEE5 is the one i need , it's a 3 inch stroke with the same bore size as the 5ZEE4 ... The 5ZEE4 is 6.6 long and mine is 7.5 long .. Since my mounting holes are all ready set up for the 3 inch stroke ram i want to put the same thing back on and not have to change the mounts ..

Please forgive another stupid question, I really am trying to learn here. The solenoid valve that we are using says it has a 120psi max pressure. what are the consequenses of hitting it with 140-160psi?
Thanks again.

My regulator is set to 140, same with my zx10r. Never had an issue with the solenoid failing. Some people set them at 120 and have no problems, but at 120 I would miss a shift ever so often, never misses at 140 for me.
