Quick ECU question.
I'm shipping my 14R ecu off to Brock next week and wanted to ask how easily does it come out?
Do I have to take off the bodywork or does it just slip out after unplugging.
Thanks.

remove the toolbox, unplug the wires, and take it off the undertail pegs while still in the rubber case

Thanks, it's on it's way to Ohio.
The tamperproof bolts on the toolbox were challenging (is this just Euro bikes?) but I got them out ok.

New here but been watching for ages. I believe that the tamper proof bolts are Euro-spec only Bob. I thought that I would share this information for those of us on this side of the pond. Chris with CJS Racing near Bristol has just flashed and mapped my ECU, the dyno graph speaks for itself, I thought the 2012 ZZR1400/ZX14R was fast and powerful enough before the flash, now it is nothing short of amazing. My bike was completely stock with the exception of a 4 into 1 Akra, making 187bhp (about the norm for stock). In this graph, the blue line represents stock low power mode, the green is stock full power mode, the red is full power mode after the ECU flash, Chris managed to extract another 19bhp, it appears that the bike now has around 125lbs torque at 7500rpm's. I hope to post more graphs, but this 6th gear pull clearly shows that the 300kmh speed restriction is now gone.
Chris then extended the redline to 11,400rpm's, he eliminated the O2 sensor (no engine warning light). What this graph does not show is that now the secondary butterflies are now fully open at 3,000rpm's instead of 5,500, no need to pull the flies for those of us wanting more low end grunt!
The bike is still very smooth, low rev fueling seems to be spot on, no idle surging and most importantly, it now has a lot more power (like it needed it!).
Of course there is no obvious way of telling that the ECU has been flashed, for those of you that maybe overly honest, feel free to let your insurance company know of this performance upgrade! A PCV will set you back at least £280, then add the cost of installation and dyno mapping, an easy £400 plus. CJS is able to flash in a custom fueling map into the ECU, no need for a PCV!

Chris will charge £199 for the reflash with the secondaries fully opened at 3,000rpm's, removal of 300kph speed limiter, extend the rev limit 500rpm's (or more if you wish) and eliminate the O2 sensor. For £325 you can get the full in-house tuning, a bargain considering the cost of a PCV.
He can also map both L and F power modes and can provide these services for the 2006~20011 ZZX1400's along with the ZX10's and other ZZR's.

Hi "Katch", welcome aboard.
I thought , with your history, you would have already been a member here.
The tamperproof bolts were on my 09 as well. Came out easy enough with a sharp (ie new) screwdriver.

Thanks for the information Marcus. I'm in Plymouth. The reason I'm sending my ECU to Brock is because I've ordered an exhaust system and other bits for my ZZR from Brock through GT Motorcycles. Mike Grainger is also buying some Brock bits for his own ZZR, so we've put in one big order. It just seemed sensible to get it all from one supplier and we'd decided that Brock Davidson was "the man"
I decided to go for a PCV too, as opposed to doing everything via the ECU reflash, because I can more easily return the bike to stock if I sell it in the future. No changing the ECU back to standard mapping, just remove the Power Commander and refit the stock exhaust.
It will also be far easier for me to load additional maps myself, for example if I decide to run the bike on oxygenated fuel.

Marcus: I'm GM14 over there.
Bob. Which exhaust have you ordered? I've heard the likes of Elvington and North Weald are getting very strict on noise?

I've ordered the CT Single with the QuietKore muffler and I have a noise-level meter so I can check it. The noise reg's are currently: Competion bikes/ Top bikes/ 9.1 and Pro USB 106dB. All other classes 101dB and Road-Going classes 98dB. If your bike is near the class limit, make sure any inner-fairing noise absorbtion material is in place and it's worth getting the system good and hot before measuring as temperature seems to make a difference.
My 2006 bike had a TiForce system which passed the noise level checks but it got damaged and I replaced it with a Street Meg which made your ears bleed.
Every time we go to Elvington with Straightliners, despite measuring all the bikes for noise level compliance at scutineering, Trevor tells us that there's a complaint. It seems that cars etc can roar up and down all day long, making as much noise as they want and nobody bats an eyelid but if Mr Grumpy from North Yorkshire so much as "hears" a bike he moans. We try to stay away from the very end of the runway for that reason. These are people who bought property next to an airfield ????

Hey GM14 and BobC, I hope to get that 200mph cap next Spring and will take any advice from any seasoned veterans!!! I'm thinking that an 18T front should do it, may have to re-pack the can though by the sounds of it.

"Seasoned veterans" - not me :lol
Bob knows his stuff and there are plenty of others here can hep you out, but I'm just a keen watcher.
I'm hoping to make an attempt at 200mph myself next year so I might see you there.
I'm a very unaerodynamic 300lb so I'll be looking for a little help.
With the new flash on your 2012 you should have enough to hit the mark but somebody should be able to guide you on gearing?

To answer the question on gearing for 200 firstly you will need the ECU reflash to remove the top speed limiter. While that's being done you can also have the rev limit raised by 500rpm.
That will allow the bike to exceed 200 on the stock 17/42 gearing. It should then do about 206 mph. If you gear it 17/40 it will hit the limiter at 217.
If you have 200 as a target you need the lowest possible gearing which gets you over the desired speed but allow a few percent for slippage.
