quote: isnt the head ported from the factory already? sometimes more isnt good ,first season with a hand full of passes and very good results ur readdy to screw it up,Chris built u a very fast bike and reliable, how about more tweeking in suspen, gearing, tuning, and go out and kik some more asses next season. all im sayin is give wat u have a chance before u go into the motor and have to go back to square 1.
Nice Job Rick !!!
The head isnt "ported" from the factory. First you have to define ported. What does ported mean?
If it means taking a sandpaper roll and smoothing out the casting walls then yes its "ported".
But that's really just polishing the ports. Yes the ports are polished and yes it does help flow a very small amount, about 2 cfm typically.
But porting is really about bringing up the flow efficiency of the port, to its theoretical limit, for a given minimum cross sectional area at a specific test pressure, usually 28" of water.
If you take a 2 square in opening and create a pressure differential of 28" on each side of the opening its going to flow X amount. Getting a port to flow as close as possible to that X amount is what porting really is.
The truth is that the short turn on the 2012 head isn't any better than the 06-11 head. Our CNC ported stage 1, 2, and 3 heads for the 2012 picks up as much power as our Stage 1, 2, and 3 heads do for the 06-11 engines.
The real difference in the heads is the length of the divider in the intake ports and the exhaust ports. The MCSA relationship to the displacement of the engine hasn't changed.
As far as screwing it up and going back to square one?
Let me just say that this isn't our first rodeo. Our CNC ported head and cam packages are making more dyno power than anyone elses in the industry and there the fastest going down the track as well.
Look at the big grudge events this year or a MiRock race? The fastest all motor bikes
AND nitrous bikes in the country are running our head and cam packages. The Black Caddy Busa and Area51 are a couple that come to mind.
Also Mike Garcia just went 219 at Bonneville on a 223 hp 1340cc busa stock bore and stroke to set the record.
We have been doing Rickey's motors for a few years now and he wouldn't be having us do them if he didn't think they could win.

I m not nocking your work Jim ,but how many of the bikes u named are turboed? from wat i see the bike is more mellow when leaving the line and he can lock the throlle sooner without all the front wheel lift ,which inturn helped him go faster in the front half .

Quicker not faster.
Running less boost he stated , which is probably why there is less mph.
Still kicking ass in the 60' and 330 as the slip shows.
Can't critique a set up that just won dude...

Ditto ..The set up must be pretty darn good for Ricky to be tossing down 1.33 on a turbo bike at his wheel base ..

Incredible Rickey, from motor work right thru to the 7.8 ride, fabulous job and thanks for sharing the headwork - food for thought on our n2o motor.....Quick question, why does a turbo bike sound like it's banging off the rev limiter at the top of the first few gears - is it? Interestingly, I've heard the same "ratta-tata" sound from some of the big turbo sleds as they wind up when we go on the 1/4 mi ice up here.
Cheers,
Cliff in TO
