went on a 300 mile ride

took my turbo bike for a long ride .. on the way back i went 140 miles on 1 tank of gas .. i'm just shit happy 140 miles - 4.4 gallons fuel = 36 mpg on a turbo bike at highway speeds on 93 pump gas .. at the track on E85 its 4 passes to 1 gallon = 1 mile to 1 gallon .. oh and had some excitement when my trusty schnitz adjustable lowering links part # km1001 broke .. left a black strip a 1/4 mile long when it lock the tire into the subframe at 70mph .. no warning 1 minute enjoying the ride the next second oh shit WTF.. HAD TO HAND CRAFT A SET OF LOWERING LINKS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FROM 1/4 FLAT PLATE AND A TORCH .. those links will stay on this bike as a reminder never to purchased that junk again

You are a lucky fella on a couple of counts. Locked wheel at 70mph and you didn't dump it & having someone near by to help you fashion roadside plates to get you rolling again.

Would you mind heading to the store with me when I buy some lottery tickets??

yes both broke at same time .. being i've heard rumors and had a friend break adjustable links before .. i had just look at them 20 miles back when i fill -up with gas and they where perfect.. i also had the all stainless steel ones that everybody said are better ones ..i also adjusted them with a set of calipers to make sure the adjustment was the same on both sides .. they just don't use a big enough thread size bolt in them ..5/16 vs 3/8 or bigger is the problem.. the 5/16 just snap

the road side help had to travel 30 miles to me ..i don't panick when shit happens and keep riding until it stops .. ok maybe just a little luck along with the st christopher metal that was inside my used icon jacket i purchased a ways back.. i didn't even have time to think about leaving a brown spot in the seat when the links broke .. but since i didn't go down instant i knew i had a chance to ride it out then ..

i had a chain adjuster bolt on the swing arm break before at the track @100ft mark or so .. chain torque from launching and grease on the axle shaft... it cock the tire sideways and threw the chain off .. that was a ride cause the rear tire pulled the bike towards the way the back tire pointed..so i had to counter steer away from the rear tire .. had the same jacket on that day.. i now tighten the rear axle bolt with a cheetha pipe and dry.. not saying it was not tight then BUT it gets stupid tighten nowadays ..

You mind giving us the brand name of the links you had break ? Maybe shoot a picture of them also so we can see where the weak part is .. It may save some others from the same problem or worse .. I have the Adjustable ones also but the have 3/8 bolts .. 5/16 bolts seems too small to me ..

Thanks ...

OK km1001 stainless set that they sell are for the busa .. The ones for the ZX14 are Brocks window links ..Schnitz Racing new web store doesn't even list that link any more .. They only show Brocks links now ...

They can keep the links but i could use a new undertail and tail light being mine got ground to shit .. but read SCHNITZ policy on parts and warranty and law suit with disclaimers .. throws the blame all on the customer for buying the part and putting it on their bike .. I'VE spent alot thru them in the pass but after reading the policy i won't spend another dime .. SO NO USE IN ASKING OR DEMANDING..

I used the three-hole fixed links on my old bike (Muzzy?) and will be using Brocks window links on the new one.

I don't think it's unreasonable not to warranty parts that are used for racing but I would expect the seller/maker of the part to take an interest in the case of failure. They need feedback.

no i'm good there .. as with most motorcycle parts there wasn't no testing and just dropped on the market ..if you do a search you'll see several failures and people always blamed other stuff except the crappy part .. you didn't have the lock nuts tight ,,you had them adjusted wrong., the bike's out of alignment, you bought cheap copied part, owner wrong installment , but never that the 5/16 bolt is to small.. i was stupid for leaving them on but thats because the guys on the internet said the all stainless ones are the good ones ..
