14r rear brakes loud high pitch only 900 miles any ideas?

i have a 14r with only 900 or so miles and when im on the rear brakes to much i guess they get too hot and make a high pitch squelling, anybody else have this problem? never once on my 09 14 did they squell. should i take it to the dealer or just get better pads? its really loud and embarrasing, any input would be appreciated, thanks

Maybe the pads crystalized..... not sure if the stock pads will do that. How does the rotor feel/look? Loss of breaking power?

With 2000 miles on mine I don't think I've ever used the rear brake.sounds like you're using the rear brake for most of you're stopping power. Which probably overheated you're pads and glazed them.most of you're braking should come from the front brakes.

what bently said... i was looking for that word,glazed.. lol. instead i used crystalized. you might want to start braking with rear brake then when the weight of the bike moves forward then use your front brakes and release back break or use back break in moderation with the front.... remove your old pads and inspect them.. they will probably feel smooth and hard if they are glazed... compared to normal pads that arent glazed.

I've been riding for almost 30 years so I don't think I'm using to much rear
Brakes. I use mostly front but when I do use the rear to hard or too much
It squeals. It's the first bike I've owned that's done this so I'm sure it's not me

With such low mileage recommend you consider taking it to dealer for inspection replacement of rear brake pads..should not squeak like that being brand new....sounds like defective pads or you overheated the rear disc.

i dont think brake pads are covered in warranty... he will have to pay out of pocket... good thing they are not expensive..... if rotor overheated then it would tend to start warping.... personally i wouldnt take the bike in to dealership without replacing the pads. they are going to charge that high hourly rate. at that point your better off replacing the pads yourself. if for some reasion you do that and still have that noise then its prolly the rotor.. and now you got s extra set of pads for the future.

Just scuff up your rear rotor a little with sandpaper and drop in some new pads. They are like 25-30 bucks for a new set. Cheap safety insurance. BTW I also warped a Galfer Wave rear rotor on my 07. Galpher said they had never seen anything like and replaced it. I am also heavy on my rear brakes as I am not a lightweight and I like to practice panic stops occasionally which hammers the brakes hard.

Im glad to see someone else does this! i cant believe how many people dont use there rear brakes. thats crazy, i know they only account for only 25 30 percent but in an emergency that could mean the difference between hitting something or not, plus the front pads will last longer using front and rear every time

speedyme:

Not having any problem with my rear (2,800 miles), BUT I use it routinely on twisty roads and in hard braking situations. In fact in a corner, often I only used the rear to..tweak my entry speed and not upset the front grip. Of course for maximum stopping the front probably has 70 odd % of the stopping power, but your not crazy using it bro.
