Suspension

Hey guys I need some suspension advice. Right now the 14R is hooking and booking at the track with a stock shock on the stock setting. Unfortunately I am one of those guys who like to play with the knuckle heads in the streets, where I am 0-3 (4-0 at the track). My bike is about 68.5 inches and I have two riders that ride my bike me at about 285 and my jockey at about 210, before you guys get with the jokes I know he is overweight for a jockey, and I know I should be riding a cruiser lol… My quest to ever get faster before I start spraying the bike has brought up thoughts of suspension work not only for now but when I add the extra 30-40hp. I want to be able to make full use of the extra added HP. Over the winter I plan to do a undercut tranny, rods, 2-3mm pistons, ported head with upgrades valves and springs, and probably going up to up the spray to a 75-100 shot. With all that being said I know the suspension will need to be right. After coming back from the car world back to the bike world I have noticed this is one of the most critical yet most overlooked part of setting up a vehicle to race. Can you guys chime in on what the best shock available.. Secondly what the best for the money. I see brocks has one for a 1000 and ohlins is about 1200. I have heard of guys doing a re-valve for 500-700. I have also heard of guys cross breeding and using a busa shock on the 14’s. Ultimately my goal is to get the bike hooking in the street. I assume is it can hook on the un-prepped surface of the street hooking on a good surface like that the track should be a no brainer

Also doe s anyone know anything about the 465 progressive shocks. Saw those in a parts unlimted catalog

Thanks

Mine was spinning hard on street. Hooking at track was decent at best, Brocks drag shock works very well. What you running for tire ?

Shinko Hook Up and we hook and go at the track. We even hook in the street at about 10 psi, its jsut on the big end she starts to haze the tire!!!!

Im thinking one of these may do the trick

If you want to street race, it's going to be tough at 68" wheelbase.
Your setup will be completely different for the street and track.
On the street, your going to set your suspension up softer to be more "giving"
Than the track. At the track you can have it so its stiffer and will go instead of squat as much.
That's my understanding of the shock.

That is exactly it IMO. Street u need it to squat to hook or will leave mean 60mph burn outs . Done a few my self , but at track soft tire with stiff will 60 foot better less time of suspension doing its thing.

I am 225-235 and SWB on the street works pretty well for me, unless I don't warm up the tire and drop the PSI. Launching above 4500 is pissing in the wind, 4000-4200 works best for me and I can't hit NOS until 3rd..... Unless I want to wheelie, wait till 115-120 before hitting NOS, running a 40 shot.
